I looked on SScentral a while back for the thread on converting super soakers to bb guns. I still haven't tried that but i will get around to it.I acually found this site while looking for THat topic.Oh good times.I dont know what i'd do if Spudfiles shut down probably get very sad for a couple of days.

I had always been interested in weapons, but never made one. After I had saved up a lot of money from my job and got my driver's license, I realized I could do a lot of stuff. First I built a combustion gun. It shot, but the design was PATHETIC It was literally a pipe with a plug at the end, and a barbecue lighter. Then I discovered the PSR-01 on PVC ballistics, and built that. It was my first pneumatic. I've been launching potatos into near earth orbit with that gun ever since halfway through the school year. Now that it's summer, I'm working on a semi-automatic shotgun, and it's coming along! I hope to make a semi-automatic paintball rifle with co2 for pressure, but I have to learn how to rig all of that crap first, and accept that I'm going to spend a lot of money on this, seeing as a 1" ball valve at the store costs 5$

I think it started a long time ago when my Dad brought home a set of plans for combustion cannons. I was never allowed to build one so I just searched online and came across pill bottle guns. Built one, and that was that. It only evolved from there.

I was looking around youtube to find a homemade airsoft gun, and I came across neospuds' clear inline vortex video. I instantly wondered how one worked and visited the link to neospuds' website on his profile page. I found out how vortexes worked and why they were superior to clouds. I needed more direction, so I went to his links page for more information. From there I eventually visited the link to Spudfiles. I was a mere guest, looking here and there learning more about the different kinds of vortexes one could make. When I finished my vortex, I decided I wanted to post it on Spudfiles, so I registered and posted it. I have been hooked on pneumatics and BBMGs ever since.

haha i was 12 an bored. my friend had scrap tools, pvc, abs, etc in the back. tried making a 5 foot combustion out of a mix of abs, pvc, and duct tape. an tried to use gasoline to shoot it. i had no idea what i was doing. actualy the expansion chamber flew off an spit out a fire ball that about took off my hand. but i didnt even know what a spud gun was. i just got bored. i tend to build bombs an wepons when im bored. but anyways eventualy i looked pvc cannons up online. at some point ended up here. been building combustions ever since. just signed up to this site though, for the last year or two ive been using it as resource material

Well for me, like VH, it all started with Backyard Ballistics.
I made my first one but could only shoot it in around my house, which is in a surburbia, so i have never actually used a potato as a projectile. The first cannon i made i used ping pong balls that were wrapped in tape, and then did pretty well.

After that the hobby kinda lulled until one of my coworkers was going to have a demonstration with his spud gun, so i quickly went to home depot and made one. This one was a little better than my first, at least more complex, and shot it off with my coworker. We used these projectiles made out of high impact plastic which got me thinking, i was working for a rapid prototyping company, i can make a Vortex Football like projectile, which let me tell you goes really far (somewhere around 300 yards using a hairspray cannon, chamber size was about 3"x14", measured on google maps )
After that i made a smaller cleaner version and actually put a ketchup packet through a lunch tray.

And now im doing research to build a propane fueled cannon with remote ignition. Plans are coming along pretty well just have to wait for my next paycheck so i can afford it....And then find a place to fire it off.....but when i do, let them spuds fly

I started out in October last year after I had seen a basic combustion cannon demonstrated at Science North. I found some plans for a spray n pray combustion at AdvancedSpuds.com, and built it, and it worked fairly well. It always had ignition problems so, in the spring, I came up with the bright idea of using oxygen to make ignition a more common occurence. It was made out of solid walled ABS and fiberglass (which I now know didn't really help), and fired beautifully for hundreds of shots (with remote ignition of course). Then one day, I decided to seal up all of the leaks (there were lots), to stop as much fuel from escaping. Little did I know that those leaks were the only thing saving the cannon from being blown to pieces. To make a long story short, that cannon has been retired, and I now have a very good idea of the amount of energy contained in a 1.5x stoichiometric mix of O2 and MAPP gas. After that incident, I moved to pneumatics, and have stayed there.

What is the advantage?

I first got interested in spudding in '05 when I was hanging out with my friend at his grandma's house in northern Utah. His uncle was talking about how they were having "punkin chunking" contests near there with guns made of pipes and shit. When i got home to NJ i googled around and found basic plans for guns and built a bunch of mini launchers. I kinda lost interest due to school and being busy a lot. This summer I had some free time so I found plans on a different site then found this one. I'm currently working on two pneumatics right now.

I was watching Monster Garage on Discovery Channel, and then used a rotating Pneumatic Cannon to fire packages. They then showed a clip of a spud gun firing. I instantly put down everything I was doing and rushed to the internet, searching for "air cannons" (that's what they refurred to it as) and got "How Not to Build an Air Cannon". However, my Dad is a very caucious man and wouldn't build one without plans, very detailed plans. Thankfully, I found the best excuse this year, Science project.

I meant Inline vortexes with spring plungers. You can fire them from almost any direction, more reliable for skirmishing.
