I'm a little South of there and have visited on several occasions. Last time I went I found they discontinued the live show in the Butchart Gardens and instead do fireworks. I miss the shows. :( Very beautiful place.

If our TSA will get out of the way, I would like to visit more often. Love the train station on the 3rd floor of the museum in Victoria. It is one of the best I've been to. It is possible to forget you are inside a building at times.

Indoors can have some great photos. Look up the tree trunks of some of the trees in the background.

Im glad you enjoyed the island; I am about 3 hours north of Victoria, in Comox, and it's nothing short of amazing. Everybody on the island is pretty relaxed (took my panzerschreck to the beach). I like it a little bit more than the main land (used to live outside of Vancouver).

I'm really hoping im not the only "active" (yes, I was on hiatias for a while) spudfiles member on the Island...

It looks like you were near one end of the famous race cross the strait before they changed the route to hug the mainland coast. Nanaimo is one of the few places where they put stoppers in the bathtub to keep the water out. :D I watched a race in the 1970's. Crazy stuff. Ever go watch the race?

've got a few weeks to explore Vancouver Island for the first time and I'd like to see as much as possible. I have friends to see in Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Tofino, Powell River, and possibly Port Alice.

I don't want to stay indoors at all, I just want to see as much cool nature stuff as I can. Every track is appreciated and so are hiking and sight-seeing recommendations.

What a great place to visit! It is one of my dream come true. I've been there last year. It was a wonderful experience. I visited Butchart Garden, Tofino and West Coast Trail. We were staying in Ocean Village Beach resort. It had a great view. I loved the Butchart Garden. It was so colorful and I still remember the great moments we had there. If I get a chance, I'll surely visit Vancouver again. Please do recommend other tourist spots there.
