Hinged Valve
I got sick of looking for things to make a piston valve so I came up with a new idea. I was first thinking about a butterfly valve, couldn't think of a way to activate it quickly, then came up with this. The yellow pin/sear holds the plate over the hole, then releases, and the force of the air causes it to fly open. The light green part is the hinge.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found a way to avoid a solenoid in my Hinge Valve. The force of the hinge pushes on the angled part of the pin which is held in place by the trigger block. When the trigger is pushed, the pin moves through the hole in the trigger block. Once the pin is out of the way, the valve is free to open. I have figured out how to reclose the trigger but did not add it in the drawing. I got the trigger idea from http://people.howstuffworks.com/machine-gun7.htm

Im guessing the "green" thing is spring loaded some how? Looks good, but your proably going to bust the sh*t out of it once it slams agians the chamber wall. Proably would work, but not effecient once you consider that its prone to failure.

finding a better valve is like building the better mouse trap ! there's gotta be a better way, and as soon as i come up with it i'll get rich, and everybody can build a better spudgun how about that !!
a rubber bumper would stop this valve from tearing the chamber up, my question is How do you colaspe the seal past the point of the valve catch to relock it ?

u do realize most chambers are round right? the valve will not have as much area as in your picture.
let it land on a smooth flat surface.

I was thinking about either putting a spring to act as a bumper/return, or a block of styrofoam or rubber, round on one side, flat on the other, so it fits the contour of the pipe. The plate itslef may be rounded on one side with a soft material. If this were upside-down, gravity would just swing it back to closed. My firend also has a few hinges with built in springs, but they are too big, I need to find one like that but smaller.

that would be quite a challenge to seal and the plate would have to resist bending. The square chanber would be wierd but it would work. If you got it to work i think it would be a killer valve

Looks to me like if you were to account for all the variables like contour of the chamber, strength of material, etc it would be a killer valve. Just one of those things you need to play with and try. Damn good idea though.

u can valve the top half of a chamber, so it folds onto itself. but, how will u reset that?

Yeah, if you make the flap about 70% (or less) the diameter of the pipe, it should be fine. (that's for a centered flap)
My worries are that you'd shear the trigger pin, have issues with flap slap, or have sealing issues because the flap will tend to bend away from the sealing surface and will require a retaining system with some "spring" in it.

I think I fixed it. The plate is smaller than the chamber and has a "slap block" made of absorbent material, such as styrofoam, sponge, or rubber. I would appreciate any help in the form of JPG's in addition to written help. P.S. Look at the top for an updated trigger system. It's gonna be a lot more heavy duty than in the picture.
