Ive searched for plans in the How-To and Accessories forums and I didnt find a thing. Ive seen several scope rails but I havent found any plans so can anyone send me a link or designs or something? Its going on my sniper if anyone wants to know.

just epoxy an 11 - 13mm wide strip of aluminum to the top of your launcher, voila ;D

if you have a scope with mounts you will find that they clamp together over the rail. The cheapest and in my opinion best way to mount the scope mounts to the gun is to go steal an aluminium sign from somewhere, or buy one, and then cut an appropriately sized strip with a jigsaw off. Then you can mount the scope to the strip and clamp the strip to the gun with some hose clamps.
The advantage of clamping rather than gluing is that if your scope is zeroed in wrong, you can change it.
its what i did with my AMR-1.
anyways, 10-13mm is way too much. Your looking at like 4-6mm at the most.

i would seriously advise you against a scope, because iron sights are much better.
Unless you have a seriously high powered cannon a scope is overkill, because the projectile never flys far enough or straight enough to hit where you aim anyways. Believe me i have tried, and while it is good for distancing and improving the general flight path of the projectile its still a hit and miss affair.
Iron sights are easy to use, easy to setup and dont get in the way like a scope can. plus they are next to free.
good luck.
oh and jack, my scope rail is 8mm wide, 2mm thick, 15cm long.

It depends on your scope mounts, most dovetails on rifles range from 9-16mm. If you don't bevel the edges of the rail then yes, 8mm width sounds ideal.

Ive got an industrial compressor and I'm gonna see how much power a 300 psi shot can fly out a 1.75m barrelbboymatty wrote:i would seriously advise you against a scope, because iron sights are much better.

Have you shown us this launcher yet? What valve, calibre and chamber size?Ive got an industrial compressor and I'm gonna see how much power a 300 psi shot can fly out a 1.75m barrel

I wrote a tutorial on how to construct the scope mount used in my most recent gun in the post near the bottom of the first page.

Not for much longer you won't - someone will nick it soon.TwitchTheAussie wrote:Ive got an industrial compressor
One bloody hell of a lot with a proper piston valve. What calibre are you using?and I'm gonna see how much power a 300 psi shot can fly out a 1.75m barrel.
Watch out for the recoil (e.g. don't have your eye too close behind any part of the launcher when firing) if you're using more than a 1" bore or more - it could well be coming back pretty hard.

This will be for the next contest and its gonna be in the build for a few months the metal I need cost heaps and I don't have a job. The barrel will be 16mm large I don't know what cal that is and the chamber has an inner diameter of 80mm and is 95cm long. And if you take my compressor you'll have a very mad and probably very drunk aussie after yajackssmirkingrevenge wrote: Have you shown us this launcher yet? What valve, calibre and chamber size?

That would be 0.63 cal (marbles, I'm guessing) and with those specifications, if you made it a co-axial piston valve and filled it to 300 psi you'll have one MOTHER of a sniper that will be extremely loud (so I hope you're catering for an effective silencer like chaos added to his S400) and certainly not safe enough to shoot indoors!TwitchTheAussie wrote:The barrel will be 16mm large I don't know what cal that is and the chamber has an inner diameter of 80mm and is 95cm long.
If it's always filled to the same pressure and consistent ammo (such as marbles) that fit tightly in the barrel are used then I'd say yes, it would more than justify the mounting of a scope.Unless you have a seriously high powered cannon a scope is overkill, because the projectile never flys far enough or straight enough to hit where you aim anyways. Hope that it's more than just a pipe dream, good luck.

Thanks Jack. Im still working on the piston housing design and with some help (thanks Chaos
) I'll have a piston done. I should start up a charity lol to help get me the money for my metal. And yes marbles are my ammo of choice and I was working on buying several meters so I can have interchangeable barrels (shorter lengths etc). Basically I really hadnt considered a silencer but thanks for the heads up. The chambers finished and when I get the 16mm pipes I'll be able to have it done within two weeks of getting the pipes. So yeah thanks a lot for all the ideas and I'll start drawing it up but the pics will be on my site coz I think I might have a design noone has used yet :glasses7:

yer with that scope bit perhaps try a 1X magnification red dot scope, i have one and at 20-30m i can hit a 1kg Milo tin consistently at 200psi with lead fishing sinkers.TwitchTheAussie wrote:Ive got an industrial compressor and I'm gonna see how much power a 300 psi shot can fly out a 1.75m barrelbboymatty wrote:i would seriously advise you against a scope, because iron sights are much better.

hope all works out twitch, be careful with 300psi, seriously i think i need to upgrade 2 components on my gun before i venture over the 300psi mark.
and yer as JSR said have a look into silencers coz this will cause hearing damage without a doubt
cheers

It's not *that* much of a big deal as long as you take the right precautions, I made many PVC coaxials up to 3/4" calibre using 40mm pipe (3.5mm wall thickness) as a chamber and used them up to 400 psi, never had a stress failure in the chamber, barrel or piston.hope all works out twitch, be careful with 300psi, seriously i think i need to upgrade 2 components on my gun before i venture over the 300psi mark.
