Haven't noticed the discussion about holes in the silencers housing.

I think I am going to try something at home. I think it has some potential, altough i'm not sure.

I would love a good supressor, as my mom freaks out if I shoot my gun in the backyard :D

*twitch* *twitch*
no. holes in the exterior housing do not work. the entire purpose is to keep the gasses in the suppressor and then slowly leak them out of one hole, not several holes.

Aaah. screw it. I'm gonna try it out right now.

I'll let you hear!

I've got an useless supressor floating around somewhere....

Edit:

Hell, can't get my piston gun to work.. should've built a spring loaded ball valve instead..

No testing today!

Don't you dare whine about slow torrents unless you match me.
Now that the pistol is almost fully assembled we can begin to assemble the silencer.
The silencer is of very simple design, but no less effective for that.
The silencer wraps around the entire barrel in ‘integral’ fashion, rather than just
screwing onto the end of the barrel. This allows a more compact pistol design.
The silencer is constructed from a 7¼” length of 16 gauge steel tubing. Seamless
tubing is preferable. The silencer baffles consist of a ‘stack’ of nine 22mm ( ¾” ) brass
plumbing olives. These are the measurements supplied on the packet, but their actual
diameter is 25mm. Nine 1’’ diameter washers, having a hole diameter of ¼” are also
required.
Both products are readily available from any good hardware or plumber’s merchant.
Two steel collars are also required as a means of attaching the silencer to the barrel.
A collar having a ½” bore will usually have an outside diameter of 1”. The ½” collar
will, therefore, be a perfect fit when fitted over the barrel, and, be a snug fit inside the
silencer body. If the appropriate size of collar cannot be located ‘’off the shelf’’ they
will need to be turned from a section of 1” diameter steel bar.
Here's a taster from my .pdf, if anyone wants the lot I'll gladly email it to you.

I found another one in my end of the world stash.

Edit: What do you mean I can't post .pdf!

I've made a .rar, enjoy. It would be self extracting but the forum won't let me post it.

If you don't have WinRar, can I recommend 7-Zip.

My torrent was 72MB, I've got a very small download for the month, 2GB so that's a large file, I'll get those once I get to one of the places I can torrent.

You have one, too, 'eh ?

Cause everyone knows that when it's the end of the world, our computers will still work, and we will have plenty of time to sit in front of them and read/follow our "how-to's".

Personally, I don't worry about survival. I am an insulin dependant diabetic, and if the grid crashes, I am only going to survive until shortly after the insulin runs out, anyway...

End of the world, I have almost all the good info printed, I'm on solar power so the computers still work, I live way out in the country & I've memorized the most important info.

I don't think it'll come to that, I should make the point that I'm not one of the sorts who belive such things, I just like having that info for "experiments".

Not after the EMP they won't!

But yes, suppressor thread, not survivalist thread ;)

This is a design that's curing right now, I made a smaller chamber in between that of the mini and micro hybrid, and a better engineered suppressor with a more heavily ported barrel and diagonal baffle stack, vaguely along the lines of the Makarov PB internals:

I always said there wasn't a single example of a firearm suppressor with holes in the external tube, but well, I found one  on a Russian pen gun!

Image

No word on how effective it is though, and it does look for all the world like an improvised device. Also, they're very tiny holes...

From this page, some very interesting improvised devices.

ive got an idea:
let's say i didn't want to use spacer rings for my baffles, could i instead make grooves with a pipe cutter?
would the grooves be deep enough to hold a washer?

I've got an idea:
hmm I like it
If it is possible then forget about epoxy and just insert a washer and make another groove that will keep it in place... then repeat the process X times (where X = number of washers)
Children are the future

unless we stop them now

Agreed, assuming the washer is an exact fit in the tube.

Sorry for the late reply. In regards to EMP, the energy in the EMP drops rapidly in an inverse square relationship. EMP tends to be induced in wires attached to devices and in close proximity, to devices themselves. To survive an EMP, a laptop not connected at the time of the pulse will survive distant pulses as they will have very little antenna area with external connections. Items stored in a proper RFI enclosure with all external leads disconnected are likely to survive with no issues. Spare computers and communications equipment is stored by the millitary for rapid recovery after an EMP event.

The biggest damage will be to items with long external wires attached such as your modem, router, television, phone, etc. You may have a computer survive the EMP event, but finding a working network to connect to afterward will be the problem. Communications will be down.

EMP was tested by the US and USSR on the national electrical grid. The EMP will trip much of the circuit protection, but most transformers, powerlines, insulators, etc will survive just fine. Breakers will need reset, some lightning protection will be damage, but generally the power can be turned on shortly after the EMP event.

The article covers some failure of some generators due to insulation breakdown. Proper lightning to prevent insulation breakdown in the equipment can fully protect generators.

Our transition to fiber optic networks is providing immunity to EMP currents in long communications wire. Many cell towers have great lightning protection and local power generation, along with fiber optic phone lines, so an EMP event or lightning strike will disrupt power, but the site will be fully functional with battery backup, and then generators. Many cell phones will be functional after an EMP event.
