i have a air cannon and it doesant go that far. the barrol it about 1 inch. do you think it would go further if i made it bigger and then the objects that i fire would be bigger and go a further distance?

Wait, what?
Making the barrel a bigger bore won't help. YOu should make the barrel longer, so it can harness more of the available energy.

In fact, I would say that in most cases, a larger bore will result in lower velocities. (flow reasons)
In most cases, however, you will get increased preformance from a longer barrel... download the <a href="

First off spell barrel right! There is a rare chance that your chamber is to small (please give specs of the gun). But if your problem is that your wasting enegy (pressure) from the chamber (due to a off CB ratio), like they said above increase barrel length. Or you can by a Super-Sonic Speed Inducer from me here

It usually helps if you know how to spell the thing that you're asking about. Use a spell checker, it's good netiquette...

My cannon has a 4"x36" and a 1.5"x60" barrel, pimpman22 sez its out of control ( im new also, dont feel bad, lol), but i gotta tell ya- it sounds like a shotgun when you touch it off and ( dont know if its good distance or not, but) the 'tater lands a touch beyond 1/10th of a mile (checked with my car). She also has a decent kick, its BIG and heavy so it helps cut down on the recoil a bit tho.
Give these guys the #s and im sure they can give you much more detailed answers. This is my first real cannon and I only built it after spending 45 minutes looking around on this forum for ideas, ive learned quite a bit already but have alot more learning to do if I want a really great cannon.

When you say that I said your cannon was out of control that is wrong. I said your CB ratio was "a little" out of control, not your gun (thought it was superb for a first build and dont even try to tell me that a 4.54:1 ration is not out of control) Provided my quote below for refrencing.

Like Longshot said numbers would help greatly.
In responce to spudgun dont tell me your flipping all this sh*t over me telling you that you spelled barrel wrong? Or was it the the link for the SSSI's? Fork head? I give you props on being original (never have heard anyone called that), but what exactly is a "fork head"? Dont think I would ever want to be "top crap" either and there is no way in hell that Im gay. Ill let it go at that for right know unless you would like to argue your point (words) and Ill glady take you up on it. Maybe on AIM so we dont waste forum space.

just for the record... i would like to tell this so called "spudgun" to do a little bit of growing up and not to flip out on people for something so trivial, especially if the person (pimpmann22) wasn't even being mean to you at all! this is not what we like to see here and it shouldn't be tolerated. I strongly suggest you change your crazy ways or just leave because you are contributing absolutely F**K all by being a bitchy little whore. good day sir.

Spudgun I hope that you at least see where Im coming from. Basically if someone calls me "gay" I dont take it lightly. So when you say "sory pimpman are we cool?" Im "cool" with anyone as long as they use common sense and purposly dont try to degrade me. (there is others but dont feel the need to go into details) A CB ratio is the ratio between the Chamber (C) and Barrel (B). The "best" CB ratios Ive heard for combustions range from .8:1 to 1.5:1 but I think most people are in the ball park of 1:1. Thats why I was saying LS's CB was "a little" out of control, 4.54:1 is a bit of overkill for a combustion (I think).

LOL, I didnt mean to whiz in your cheerios with my less than accurate quote, and I certainly do appreciate your comment about the effort that I put forth with my first build. I suppose it is " a Little out of control ". I will be building another cannon in the not too far off future, and I will be looking around for a more reasonable C:B. I just dont want to sacrifice to much of the grunt offered by my present config.
In any event, with the sparse amount of info shared in the first post no one would be able to give any useful info, and people getting wound up with one another offers even less productivity than poor info would. This forum has wonderful potential, a little patience for each other ( and a gentle reminder ) would go a long way.
