A place for general potato gun questions and discussions.

Do you think its a good design?

No way, crappy.

I was talking to my dad who has a degree in elctronics and is a flight simulator engineer. And asked him how to make a continuos spark for a stungun ignition. He said that it was really easy to do and were going to test it in a few days when I make some money. The parts are available at electronics store and just ask the store clerk guy for them. Thats what Im gonna do as I have no idea what the HSTSUP is. The parts he mentioned are an SPST Switch, a High Turns Step Up Transformer and a 9 Volt Battery. It shouldnt cost much. I made a diagram and asked my dad about the setup. He said its a good design so lets just hope. Be really carefull though. I take no responsibility if you kill yourself or anything else.

how are you gonna fill a chamber when the spark is continous?

i didn't miss anything? did i ??

o, i get it, dhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, it's got a switch to turn on and off, dhaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!

i think it will burn the entire load of fuel set up that way, but will it work better ?

it's my oppservation that the more voilent the explosion only matters how long you can contain that explosion/how tight can you make your projectile as compaired to how much can your combustion chamber handle !!

these hybyrd cannons some guys are makeing could be taken to a entire new level if they can built a much stronger chamber and barrel.

I think he's talking about a High Voltage Step Up Transformer. It lowers the current but increases the all important voltage. My disposable camera ignition has one on the circuit board inside.

Yeah also I was looking at rambos mini combustion auto and this would bo perfect. I dont actually know the power output of the spark when Ive built it I will test it and post. The HTSUT is a 'high turns setup transformer' you can get them at dick smith or radio shack or something. My dads bringing one home from work so Ill post a picture so you know what to look for.

if it works good I am going to make one as soon as possible, it looks really easy and simple

I was close to the name, and does it really matter how many volts you have? I'd measure how long I can make the spark.

Yeah but I would still prefer to know, even though its not the volts that kill its the amps its still cool to say a specific number to friends. Like Ive got a 50 000 volt ignition system. Or something like that.

Not to be rude or anything, but... do you people even know how a transformer works?! Does AC ring a bell? It can't produce multiple sparks with DC, ergo static magnetic field. It will, at best, spark once. You'd be much better off using an ignition coil.

there are 2 types of transformers, step up/step down

ac = alternating current

dc = direct current

to change ac to dc you need a diode

diode = current only flows through 1 way-thus changing it from ac to dc

all cars do this process in thier electrical systems and any rideing mower with a battery/eletric start/lights

static field is different from magnetic field

Basically, a transformer changes electricity from high to low voltage using two properties of electricity. In an electric circuit, there is magnetism around it. Second, whenever a magnetic field changes (by moving or by changing strength) a voltage is made.
From http://www.energyquest.ca.gov/how_it_wo ... ormer.html

A static magnetic field is a field that doesn't move or change over time, thus producing NO VOLTAGE. The magnetic field created by DC doesn't change, because DC doesn't change. The ignition coil is not your usual step-up transformer. I's magnetic field cascades when the ignition circuit is open, creating high voltage in the secondary. Google it for more info.

really what u are describhing is a stun gun i believe, im not sure but a stun gun might also have a capacitor on it. however i think that, at least normaly, stun guns ussualy do have a continous spark. this is because for a stun gun to be useful you really dont need tostun a man sometimes... occasionly the crackle and buzz that occurs will deter them

K40T1C,Dont stun guns pulse to course muscle spasms and thus diabaling the person,if it where continous all the muscles would contract and stay contracted until the current is released,and if say that person was wealding a firearm of some sort it would most probalbly be shot due to the muslce contarction.thats why on electic fences they pulse,because if some 1 garbs onto it they might not be able to let go of the fence if it where a continous current.

And yes i am so going to make that ignition source,as soon as i can get one of those transformers.thanks mate

Just out of curiousity has anyone located a HTSUT (High Turns Step up Transformer) that Urban Ninja was going to use with his ignition system. I'm in the U.S. and haven't had much luck locating one. Radio Shack has been no help. Thanx.......
