Sgorts mauler valve proved to be too powerful and completely destroyed my tennis ball barrel.
The barrel has a little bit of yellow discoloration from the sun and that is what I say caused it.
The part that interests me most is how it exploded.
the pieces broke apart in a spiral.
and all the pieces are razor sharp, and I managed not to even get a scratch+the tennis ball went through the mdf board I shot at
now heres some pics

Your digital camera must be really good, judging by the fact that renders HDR lighting
...
If that yellow outside coloring is really sun damage, it is really, REALLY bad. How long has it been sitting in the sun for? I've never seen anything quite that bad before.

What are those, pictures of ghosts you saw in your back yard?
On a more serious note, that's quite an interesting failure you've got there. The propagation patterns might have something to do with the way the tennis ball moves down the barrel, although I don't profess to be an expert on PVC failures.
Good job on not getting injured, but this kind of thing is why the manufacturers warn against using weak, brittle pipes with compressed gases.

Spudfiles' resident expert on all things that sail through the air at improbable speeds, trailing an incandescent wake of ionized air, dissociated polymers and metal oxides.

It could also have something to do with tennis balls fitting very tightly in 2.5" pipe. (I'm assuming that it was 2.5", I don't think a 3" would have burst with a tennis ball)
It's hard to soar with eagles when you're working with turkeys.

It might be a combination of the sun damage and a flexing barrel. It looks like it, anyway... Just glad no one was hurt!
Yeah, we wouldn't want to anger the bees, now would we??

It's radioactive. Don't worry, it's just fallout from the Nevada Test Site. Nothing to worry about. In fact, the radiation probably superheated the air in the barrel causing it to expand, overpressurize the barrel, and fail.
Stupid quote of the now:
joestue "The chamber is rated to 100 psi, it don't say that on the side, but the 2 inch stuff is rated to 300, so by analogy..."
"only the last two feet hear the end is black cellular core"
"I'm taking it to 300 psi"

It was quite fun, kind of gave me an adrenaline rush after I realized I survived and wasn't impaled by a piece of pvc.

Some of those photos make the pieces look like they have died and gone to heaven, with their angelic glow...
I'm glad you didn't get injured.
