Gas will eat PVC, but not ABS. As far as I know, denatured alcohol is OK. Get some second opinions, though.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

ah we have a flamethrower builder here now don't we? :) . yeah whatever you do, do NOT use pvc. pvc piping is soluble in gasoline, however denatured alcohol will no damage pvc piping... use abs piping just to be safe though.

Everybody says that gasoline eats pvc, but somebody, I can't remember who, soaked some pvc in gasoline and absolutely nothing happened. I suggest you get a scrap piece and test for yourself.

That would be Plasticex009 on Spudtech in <a href="http://forums.spudtech.com/topic.asp?TO ... 7896">this thread</a>.

Gasoline does absolutely nothing to PVC.

If you don't have a Spudtech Forum membership - which you should - you cannot view that page.

I don't know the material they are made of, but gasoline is really a bit too long to be a good solvent... so it'll probably be fine.

but you need to get the right fuel/air mix, that would be very hard to get the right mix with gas.

i can safely comfirm tha gasoline does not dissolve PVC. last night, after reading about this, wen to my garage where i cut a portion of 3/4" sch40 PVc and soaked it in gasoline overnight. By today in the afternoon, the pvc was still intact with no harm done to it. so it is safe to say that gasoline is safe for PVC. If you dont believe me, try it yourself.
