I don't want to agree, but but there is evidence, eg currently in 'live' chat...
I'm still very much interested in the hobby, even if I don't have much to show for it. But maybe like the others there is not much time to spend on it. Though have recently 95% finished a hybrid fuelling rig with bigger aspirations to come.

Not even close to dead! New post everyday and new members every week. The trend now has come around to more studying and less asking, gee something we've always ask for...
Just because you're not around to see it, it doesn't mean it's not happening.
@ Spudblaster15: You should add a poll just to see how a vote put to it goes.

Maybe we should have Spudfiles, or even GGDT and HGDT for android and I phones. It would make posting more spontaneous and easier.. I would even post more pics if there would be easy way for it with my phone.. (I'm actually writing this with my phone internet browser)
I get it that it's not a big thing for many of us to use internet for posting, but for me and maybe the new generation spudders it might be because we are now using all kind of apps that make posting and chatting very easy and fast. (facebook, whatsapp, etc.)
But sure spudding is not dead and will not be, there are still lot of people interested in things that make us to build spudguns, but not all is getting posted here and thats a shame.
I have build propably a 50 cannons or more in my loooong time here, and I have posted only a few.. Even now I have two projects going on.

I also wonder if there is a perception of 'everything has already been done before' so people aren't posting their builds.
Competitions are good to drive interest, but only if enough people get to see them and participation is greater than 1.
There was/is a Spudfiles whatsapp group. I am not sure if that gets any more use than the forums though.

I'm in the whatsapp group for spudfiles, if I remember right that was my idea actually to make the group
I post quite lot in there, mostly pictures of what I'm building or designing.. but there are not many members joined in that group.
There are lot to be made still, but it looks that building something new reguires lot of tools and skills.. and money..

I see new builds pretty much weekly to bi-weekly. It is true that interest in "high power" and more unconventional designs has died off.
I myself am in a position at the moment where I can't build much of anything.
As to the IRC channel, I think I sent you a PM a while ago asking if anybody still posted in there. I'd like to see it still up and active.

It might be dead to us SB15 - but it's still alive - it seems to be mostly regurgitated designs of low power pneubmatics on instructables or 'take-your-pick' YouTube instructional videos.
The way people get their information is rapidly changing... when we were kids - internet forums were more common. Search engines weren't super powerful and/or smart. Now it's really easy - but it's a surface level result - meaning, unless you really dig into the archives of forums, you are getting the most popular results 99% of the time - so people aren't really seeing everything there is to see about spudding. That's what I gather at least when I see people posting here or 'how-to' videos online... rarely is it a new design, but more commonly a regurgitated 10 year old 'development' in spudding, which is a derivative of a 15-20 year old development in paintball lol.

I don't think spudding is dead, but I can only speak for myself here.
I've been busy at college for the past 4 years, and am now heading off to a PhD program. I'm trying to put together a little project for the college I'm leaving, so maybe that'll appear here.
mobile does have a good point; I think the lack of posting is due to the efficacy of Google. I've recently had good luck pulling spudfiles information from Google without even specifying the site.

Less: posts, people online, builds, creative ideas being discussed.
A lot of us still have the spudding fever, because we all know the potential for cool launchers. Most importantly it's the COMPLETED projects that stimulate the community, and those are a bit lacking.
I've always had the problem of biting off more then I can chew. for instance I have spent so much time perfecting oring that don't leak on my lathe. they're are a pita and i pitched all my stupid 10 plus oring projects.
Solutions:
MORE COMPLETED PROJECTS
HOMEPAGE PLASTERED WITH THE "NECTAR SECTOR" ENCOURAGING MORE PEOPLE TO PURSUE MORE THEN THE BASIC POTATO GUN BY READING THE FORUMS.

Just happened to pass by and decided to say hi!
Long time no see guys.
The hobby has been and is on hold for now, but I'll get back into it one day... someday...
This forum theme is awful though. What is this, a windows 7 troubleshooting forum?
Wouldn't be surprised if this has discouraged some visitors from reading into the content and registering.

With criticism should comes constructive suggestions if you want anything changed/different... jussssssss sayin!
I personally think that the world of forum format has taken a bit of a full circle, looking at how reddit and other's are structured - it reminds me of the 00's and earlier. It is effective though apparently... maybe because they are message boards vs. forums? I'm not very savvy on that in much depth.

It's what's behind the scenes that counts... better indexing, better threading, faster load times, better databases, better scripting languages than ASP or PHP, etc., etc...
Having that solid of a foundation with a light interface is always what I'd push for... but phpbb serves this boards purposes well enough.
Oh, and PCGUY, if you stop by sometime, loading spudfiles in HTTPS protocol tries to take us to your cPanel.
Enough of my side discussions though.

Well it's definatelly not what it used to be. Almost 10 years ago it was a vibrant place - every week and day there was something interesting and ground breaking.
I think we reached a point where we maxed out pneumatics and hybrids require a lot of work to get right and that's where it all stopped. Or perhaps youngsters these days are not the same people we were ?
