What about a burst disk acuation

it would be soo cool, you could charge it and then puncture it.
the only problem would be to puncture it all the way or weaken it so it would blow on its own, maybe some sort of spring contraption. hmm this is a thinker

If you search there are many ideas about how to make a burst disc gun more predictable. The fact of the matter is the only good way to actuate a burst disk is to over pressure it. This is true not only in a pneumatic cannon where the compressed air eventually over pressures the disc, but also on hybrids where the expanding gas from the explosion over pressures the disc.
This isn't a new idea in fact it's one of the oldest ideas around, but the truth is there's not a good way the trigger a burst disc.

it would probably work...
the reason people stray away from burst disks is that they take a while to load in the burst disk. A regular piston valve can fire more than once a second (if the air source and chamber are the right sizes). A burst disk may be able to fire once a minute, and it requires a bunch of steps.
Though I HATE to say it, burst disks own piston valves in terms of performance. People build piston valves just to avoid having to reload a projectile AND a valve for every shot.
A burst-disk actuated piston valve would really defeat the purpose, and would give you a valve that has perfomance = piston valve, yet reloading time= burst disk; the worst of two worlds (in terms of piston valves and burst disks, dont get me STARTED on ball valves...)
While if you used a cam-lever coupling as a burst disk holder rather than a union, it would speed up things a fair amount, but still would have the worst of two worlds

Go to the search button and type in Triggered Burst Disk, I came up with 2 and somebody else made a third, there's also a pneumatic bursting device.

I thought of somethng like this but eloasing the disk is too annoying, not worth it pston valves are much better in every term.
