It never really occurred to me for some reason, but after being a member of spudfiles for a few weeks I realized I had a nine-foot piece of 14 inch diameter pvc in a pile of scrap wood behind my house.
So now I asked myself, "what could I possibly use this for?!". I dont see any sch number on it, but it is .5 inches thick so I dont know if it could hold pressure or not.

If anyone one could tell me what the ratings for this stuff is I'd really appreciate it(or better yet tell me where I can sell my soul to find fittings of that size)

Or just build a gun with your imagination. this thing could lead to some interesting ideas

Good look making a weapon out of it. Where do you live by the way? I want to make sure I'm far, far away from your house.

It won't be worth blowing your life savings getting fittings for it.

Make a large wooden plug (rather thicker than the walls), screw it in, drill holes for fuel and ignition through it...

...and use it for launching small sheep. The wool should trap air well enough.

Use it as the chamber for a coaxial combustion.
I suggest cutting off 1-2" and taking that into a pipe supply warehouse and see what they think. Take your pics in with you as well.

To go coaxile you'd have to pay a fortune for fittings in 14" .....

sgort made a gun with pipe simialar to this he used a wood plug and launched 5 gallon buckets full of stuff.

Those pipes in the background are actually downspouts.
I guess it would be cool to make a coax out of.
I live on top of a large hill in ohio btw, so I would probably be able to hit west virginia from where I am.

And I did the math and wooden plugs would have to take 7300 pounds of pressure at 50 psi, so I dont know if that would work

You can laminate several sheets of plywood together and then cut out your fittings from that. With a careful cut, and a good sealant, the wood plugs should work. Reinforce with screws.
Use multiple ignition points and at least one fan, more is better.

Wear ear protection, stand away from the beast when you set it off. Maybe even wrap it with something that could contain the shards should it fail ...never a bad precaution to take, especially with pipe from unknown origins. Just be sensible and safe.

Last precaution: before you start anything, find out what the things is and if it is rated at all.

Yeah, the rating is what I was worried about. Ill try to find and equivalent piece on the net and see if its rated. I doubt its meant for high pressure(the inside surface area of 4700''^2 will mean about 240,000 lbs total if my math is right which is just ridiculous)

If I make any thing from it Ill probably be 300 yards away in a bunker when it fires lol.

You might consider making it an unembelished tube pattern recoilless cannon.

That is... projectile in one end, bag of water (or similar) in the other, fuel-air mixture in the middle.

Solves two major problems at once: fittings (because you don't need 'em) and recoil (because there is... almost none).

(incidentaly, sch 40 14" pipe has .437" walls... and is rated to 130 psi.)

Wow, I just googled for half an hour trying to find specific ratings for my pipe but couldnt find any. Thanks a lot.
If its rated to 130 I might make a low pressure pnuematic. A combustion that big just seems kinda inconvenient (aside from not waiting a half hour to fill it).
I wish I could get a big steel shipping crate or something to put it in so it wont shred everything for 30 yards if it blows

(note: I found out this pipe was cut from a longer section that was used to make a telescope)

i Would use it in a combustion because yoiu have no idea of its rating. It would make on heck of a big boom!

I'd look at getting thick PVC sheet and a ton of JB Weld or QuikPlastic and basically DIY fittings. I'm not sure what you could launch with a 14" barrel (conversely I don't know what you couldn't fire with it ) but it makes a deal of sense to have a smaller diameter for the chamber. Just drill a hole in the middle of the circular piece you are using as an endcap and put the pipe 3/4 of the way through, and just cap the other end of the chamber.
