Hi all, my names Brendan and i live in New Zealand and im new to these forums so i hope this is ok. Me and my freinds have built a few cannons in the past, with a quite a bit of success, but you can only go so far with taped together joints and endcaps. So ive spent a little bit on some propper fittings and im gonna put it all together tonite. But i havn't got a name for it yet, and i need some ideas. It seems you guys know a little about spudgunning so i thought this was a good place to start. Also im planning on painting her up nicely, and was wondering the best way of going about this. Would i need to use just your average grey primer as a base, or would i need specialty pvc plastic primer/paint. Can anybody help? Thanks.

for gluing the pvc you MUST use primer and pvc cement. (why does everyone ask that?)

for paint- effin dark red barrel and black chamber, leave the valve alone.

EDIT- did you mean primer for the paint? you dont need it, but would help.

Thanks for the replies. I've just put it together and i did use pvc cement(expiry date august 2003 :P ). I am planning on having a color scheme, black and red sounds great and i also thought camo might be cool ( even if a little unoriginal), but yea my main concern was that the paint might rub or flake off if i dont use primer :?

don't worry, i have painted my guns with normal spray paint(I just buy auto paint) and it works fine, no flaking or scratching off.

Ohk thanks, ill probably do a few test sprays on some offcuts just incase. On our last gun we wrapped the barrel in black rubber tape, it looked great and gave good grip aswell. Thats something i might think about doing again.

This is probably a stupid answer but, on my friends gun he used heat shrink (the tube stuff that you heat and it shrinks, used in electronics) to cover his ugly work on his gun.

yeah, heat shrink has a really smooth look once its finished. Only problem is that it cost's alot for it.

By rubber tape do you mean electrical tape? if you do, don't use it again. Once you have put it on and it has been on there for a while it starts to unravel, and becomes sticky(even on the outside). and when you peel it off it leaves sticky residue.

hey
when you peel it off it leaves sticky residue.
did you know that fly spray removes that crap?

There's lots of nice stuff that'll remove the residue from electrical tape.

Just paint it. It looks really nice and you'll be even more proud of your work than when it was unpainted.

When i go to paint my PVC guns, i lightly sand the PVC, just to take the smoothness off. Spray paint right on. I've never had a problem with the paint when I do it like that. Red and black would be a good scheme.
-pipes of life... haha sounds good.

Use Krylon Fusion paint. That is the best plastic paint ever. All my cannons are painted with it and it holds up great.

Thanks a lot, I'll definatley be painting it, probably black and red. Still to decide on a name though, pipes of death sounds very menacing  . I'll post it up in the cannon showcase once its done.
