I have tried similar and it will always happen like that, there is too much air just to launch one BB, it will try to launch the next one or two at a reduced velocity, so they just roll down the barrel. If you want semi auto you need to block the magazine tube somehow between each shot, that's the tricky bit. I did it with a seperate loading piston

I would incorporate a inline paddle wheel of sorts with the partitions just big enough for one BB at a time. Use a external adjustment to control the ROF. This would be replacing one mechanism for another but you would gain on the fly tuning, downsize the over all size. Just off the top of my head, probably has been done before...

So there is no chance of magazine with magnet detent working reliably?
