Look who took a break from bothering sheep!
Hope all is well in your corner of the world. We mentioned you the other day, talking about the unfired miniboy ;P

We've moved more heavily into dairy now, more cushion for...yeah.
Haha forgot about miniboy. The last few years I've been doing a lot with electronics and I'm now even less certain we could build anything to put inside it for tracking. I still wanna shoot it for the hell of it though!

No point in doing it gingerlyMrCrowley wrote:We've moved more heavily into dairy now
Now that I too have access to large expanses of wilderness, I see some experiments of the sort in the future, perhaps with a larger caliber that would make electronic tracking feasible. The last few years I've been doing a lot with electronics and I'm now even less certain we could build anything to put inside it for tracking.

That explains a whole lot!PCGUY wrote:Members with under 5 posts are indeed reviewed before posts go live... typically not much of a delay, but it is mainly jrrdw modding/approving on a regular basis. <snipped text> jrrdw has been a blessing for staying as active as he has.
I'll have to see if I can send a thank you not to whomever is doing the approvals.

I had that problem when I (not that long ago) took over the main administration of a wargaming forum.PCGUY wrote:Some forum upgrades will fend off more automated attacks, but not much stops a human being paid to purposely try to get content stuck up here.
For a long time, the forum had several spammers an hour signing up, which meant that genuine members tended to get lost in the admin approval bin. The backlog was about 10,700 accounts when I took over, because the existing admins were burned out. I took several hours to go through and throw out fake accounts (firstly by identifying IP ranges that had made hundreds of signup attempts, then by comparing the remaining IPs/emails with databases of known spammers); in the end, I validated only 29.
Fortunately the nature of that forum made it a lot easier to filter out fake accounts. I changed the "are you a up some trivia questions about the wargame - questions almost any genuine member can easily answer, but which can stop human spammers dead in their tracks.
Not sure the same thing would really apply on Spudfiles though.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Like 'what's another name for a potato ?'
By any chance is the wargame forum actually related to War Gaming ?

Not sure that one would work.farcticox1 wrote:Like 'what's another name for a potato ?'
For the forum involved, we can expect members to be arriving with enough knowledge to answer basic background questions about the game (although there is a backup "Please e-mail here if you're completely stuck" option), but for spudguns, people are unlikely to arrive with much prior knowledge at all.
Tabletop wargaming, specifically one of the more niche Games Workshop games.By any chance is the wargame forum actually related to War Gaming ?

Perhaps it's time as it's not fair that one person should bear all the load, and there's obviously a bottleneck, here's a recent mention:PCGUY wrote:Another solution is to promote some folks into moderators. jrrdw has been a blessing for staying as active as he has.
Anyone know how long it takes to lose the new user posting restrictions? Waiting 2-3 days for my posts to be approved and published is a bit of a downer...
