something that needs to be added.
this is something i think needs to be added to the forum. when a new person registers and goes to sign in for the first time i think they should not be able to make a new post until they at least click on the wiki button. like have a pop up like the one that says you have a new message except this one be bigger and have it say like " before making a new post you should go check out the spud wiki or try searching for your easier question" something like that
what do you think?
what do you think?

Marvin the Martian: The Earth? Oh, the Earth will be gone in just a few seconds.

I think it's a bit Constrictive It would turn alot of people away from the site. It would be a tad slack.
But I see your point. It is a valid one.
PCGUY, what do you think?
I'd say no at this point but, that's just my opinion.

On some other forums Im on, they have a section where if you are new, you can only post in this section for the first few days, or until you reach a certain post count. Which they don't tell you so you don't spam)
On other forums they don't let you post for a certain amount of time as well, like 24hours.
A great feature I saw on another forum was when you make a new topic, and you type in the title it automatically searches and brings up topics with similar titles in a little box just below where you type the title.
Oh and remember the Wiki isn't exactly perfect, it lacks alot of info.
I'm not complaining, the guys that do put info up, great job.
But directing people there wont do alot, it will hep but not alot.
The best place in the whole world wide web for spudgun information is on these forums. (and the SGTC archive

i personally think it is a lousy idea. if that happened to me, i would click on it, then go back to what i was doing. i think it would be far more effective to have the automatic e-mail that gets send to new members say something like "most of your questions about basic cannons can be answered in the winki..."
"physics, gravity, and law enforcement are the only things that prevent me from operating at my full potential" - not sure, but i like the quote
you know you are not an engineer if you have to remind yourself "left loosy righty tighty"

Another idea is to make a newbie section, where newbies can only post in until they have spent a certain amount of time on the website or made a certain amount of posts.
Or have me and the other mods filter them out, we can PM someone saying they're not yet up to standards or they are and are now able to post in every section. The only bad thing is it would be very time consuming but we would filter out the 'no0bs' from the website, and if it works it wouldnt end up being time consuming because we wouldn't have to moderate the normal no0b posts we usually get.

You have to say there isn't an overly large amount of new people that come here and ask totaly outragous questions from us,we all started at that point(remember?).Why not just make the Wiki/Search button or section a lot more visible to visitors so they actually want to see how spudguns work, the basics before having to ask us on more complicated matters, why not have the How To section much more visible right at the top with links to related topics every were.Helping people, not annoying them.

True that is, but also when you start out most people don't want to spend time researching and searching, they just want plans, and that's what happens, they just ask for plans no matter what.
They'll do anything to get plans quick and fast, unless you make it compulsory it'll never work.

was tht a mistake or joke, cos i laughed soo hard"most of your questions about basic cannons can be answered in the winki..."

I agree that something must be done, and personally the idea by rna_duelers with the more visible wiki and emails is the best so far. Perhaps before a post count of say, 50 or 100, every thread that the person writes goes through a mod first to check its worthy or not?
really good quote/phrase here

3 cheers for member vigilance!
It is also hassle free for the Mods,if a member tells a new person to search here[provide link/wiki] it is simple and effective.

The thing about vigilance is that it has to be consistent.
Most members don't have the restraint to deny people what they want. I think it is because it makes them fell less like a noob cause they know something or they want to show off.
then there are the post whores...who will post for no reason or not even help...just cause they like posting alot or want a high postcount....thus whores.
