If anybody has a spud chucker they are tired of, maby donate it as a prize. For members only. Find the winner by drawing a name out of a hat. Have the winner pay for shipping and supply thier own barrel.
Missing a part or incomplete cannon maks it ok to send by mail, correct?
Just a idea off the top of my head.

I think it shouldn't be a random pick of people, maybe have a riddle/game/competition thing going on?
Anyway I put a lot of work into my launchers (usually) so they carry a sentimental attachment and unless it's broken I don't see why I would give it away.

How about starting a competition for best gun of 2006.
In different catagories of course.combustion, pneumatic, mini, bbmg and hybrids. Then the winners of each catagory go up against each other for overall winner.Only new entries. This should get everybody building and get the site growing like crazy.
Winner gets honorary membership or something. And a big review.
Hey, I just saw I got a new rank....Specialist...sounds cool hehe

A competition can be quite useful, indeed. The forum leaders can decide on a technical challenge (like a full auto system or perfecting proectiles par example) and the benefits would be manifold:
- the technical problem gets solved, which benefits the whole community
- the forum would be more active (not that it lacks activity)
- and, of course, there's the prize. It doesn't have to be a material thing, it can just be a special rank or a zillion Spud Bux
Maybe it can be a team competition: teams of experts in different domains are more efficient than individuals on these kind of things.
Am I sounding like a school teacher yet?
No, really, these things could be fun and productive if planned the right way.

Ya I really like the idea of best gun of 2006 very sweet idea. Maybe PCGUY can set up a special section where we can submit our cannons under different categories like Brian said. Very excited to see where this thing goes!
Here is what I was going to post on spudtech until I discovered that there is a auto combustion nearing completion. (Thats all I will tell you, so dont ask for more info) Basically all this does is reward creators of new intovations in spudding. I guess something similar could be done here on spudfiles, anyways this is it...
I came up with idea after hearing both DR and Gort commenting on the lack of cannon construction as well as the lack of improvements. So those thoughts were some how coupled with the “X prize” which begun the race to space of private companies. So I was thinking of applying the same concept, but for spud gunning. To win the “Spud Tech X Prize” you would first have to construct a cannon, which follows all of the requirements given, as well as complete other required items. The money would come from donations of fellow spud gunners (probably via paypal) and would pile up. To make sure that I don’t take your money there will be a deadline for the project to be completed by, and if not constructed by the deadline all donations would be returned. Of course there is nothing making you donate, solely just to encourage new innovations in spud gunning and to reward the constructer. If I had $100-$200 backing me up on making a auto combustion I would probably be a lot more likely to construct a auto combustion. The first “Spud Tech X prize” will be for the constructer of an auto combustion. Guidelines below…
Requirements to be met to win the “Auto Combustion Spud Tech X Prize”.
All projectiles must be projected by a gaseous substance which combusts. All projectiles being fired from the launcher must travel at least one hundred yards. It must be able to shoot ten projectiles within in a minute. There must only be one combustion chamber in which in anyway projects the projectiles. The size of your projectiles must be greater then or equal to one and a half inches. Shots must be separated, which means each combustion must only shoot one projectile at a time. You must include videos of launcher shooting, the first being a side profile of the cannon shooting all ten projectiles, and the second being a “chase” view of the cannon while firing, again all ten shots. You must also provide pictures of gun, which must include one or more pictures of ALL the following: chamber, loading mechanism, barrel, venting system, ignition system, projectile(s), and any other mechanism that might exist on your launcher. If not all of the above requirements exist in one cannon of August 1st 2006 the “Auto Combustion Spud Tech X Prize” will be terminated and all donations toward it will be returned.

By "The size of your projectiles must be greater then or equal to one and a half inches", do you mean lenght or diameter (barrel bore) ? It would be easier to achieve a good ROF with barrels between like 1/2'' and 1'' (venting and refilling being the big issue here).
That was only a example, and not a actual final rules. Yeah if this was ever to happen the rules could simply exclude barrel requriments. I also was refering to pipe ID when I said 1.5". But as I said before this is pretty much useless considering theres one nearing completion. Another clause could be added to require that the auto combustion must be mechanical and couldnt be operated by any fancy-dancy electronics, besides simple contact switches.
Yours was technically a semiauto (but could easily be modified into a full auto - you just need to time the ignition) and 100 yards = 91.44 meters. Could it shoot that far?
Anyway, your simple design did prove that many times, less is more. I bet the auto Pimp is talking about would be a more complicated system, maybe gas action, something more similar to modern firearms. I was actually thinking of a similar design myself. Now that I think about it, perfecting Rambo's cannon does seem like the wise choice.

Well this went from a simple idea to i don't think it's worth the trouble anymore idea. If this could be kept simple, like draw a name from a hat, then it would be a cool contest. Anyway thanks for the input.
