UPDATE: 29 April 2011 - Rules
That's right. Think fast!
Figured these contests are cheap, quick, and mildly interesting, so I will try to start one.
Entries can go in this thread, you have a week.
Some guidelines:
1.) Average cost for a cannon: $0
2.) If you would otherwise feel the need to post it in the showcase sections, it probably doesn't belong here.
Some rules:
1.) The cannon needs to work. Video proof or stills/etc. should be included. You have until the end of the competition to prove it.
2.) The cannon needs to hold together for more than one shot.
3.) No cannons that are already posted can be entered.
4.) Only one cannon can be used by the end of the competition per member. Feel free to "practice" or get a preliminary entry.
5.) All forums rules apply.
So, bring on the pop bottles, electrical tape, and Right Guard.
I'll post mine tonight, as the glue is currently drying.
EDIT: Some more info.
I will be cruising this thread and the showcases for the next week. If I'm being slow shoot me an email. Entries will be added to the list below.
Also, feel free to be liberal naming your creations.

Sorry for the wait on the picture(s), and sorry in advance for the lack of description and detailed pictures, which I will fix soon, I have 15 minutes to do this... I'll post an explanation (not really required) and more pictures when I get back.
Simple ghetto combustion. Weak, cheesy, and exactly 0 dollars and 00 cents. Had some interesting misfires with this thing, but everything is resolved.
EDIT: Some more info...
All of the pipe was from a scrap pile I found under the house. I had the barrel from a failed burst disk launcher, which was the source of the 1" pipe for the handle and the bushing/coupling used to attach the barrel. The rest is explained in the pictures below.

- This sort of shows how the barrel is attached. The 1/2" pipe is glued into a 1x1/2" bushing/coupling which was wrapped with masking and PTFE tape and bolted into the back of the barrel. This assembly is airtight. In fact, the whole gun is remarkably airtight without the addition of the 1/8" electrode hole in the back.

Updated my post above with more pictures. Entry number one baby! (Although I did get a rather good head start. )
Go nuts. The only real thing you should spend is maybe a little time and brainpower.
EDIT:
Any type. Combustion just lends itself to ghetto-ness better, so that's what I did. The last ghetto contest was won by one of JoergS's slingshots made with condoms. There was also a simple pneumatic using cardboard tube and a pop bottle. The pop bottle was simply smashed with a hammer to fire.warhead052 wrote:Any specific type of launcher? Pneumatic? Combustion?

EDIT:
Who said power tools should be involved. Wood screws are usually free (you have them lying around), and only require a screwdriver to join plastic parts. My first combustion launcher electrodes used deck screws which I drove into the PVC with a screwdriver, and holes were drilled with a bit gripped in a pair of vise grips.Yamroll wrote:Man, I'd so be in. Good idea
Don't think I'll be touching a power tool for a while though...
Looking forward to seeing some crappy (read: awesome) entries!
Hahah, well let me rephrase. ANY tools.mark.f wrote:Updated my post above with more pictures. Entry number one baby! (Although I did get a rather good head start. )

Hmm, It looks like my first combustion may become a contest entry. I have something in mind that should qualify.

I threw something together too..
The SmellRod
Shoots with Hydrogen/oxygen, so makes some nice bangs
I have to shoot something with it yet.
Specifications
29 cm, 16 mm ID barrel
Fill port at the back
piezo ignition
Deo-can supressor (works very well, actually)
Bike-handlebar grip
Very Very much ducttape[/b]

Yes! Four entries in a 14 hours.
I added them all to the list, but Labtec didn't specify a name.
Your entries do not disappoint. Keep the ghettoness rolling in!
