Here's one just for fun:
Easter is coming up fast! That being said, the challenge is who can launch a jelly bean through 1/4" of wood. You have to film it and show the smashed jelly bean in the same video clip. The video clip can't be longer then 45 seconds long so you might want a friends help to hold the camera and run to the board right after you shoot.
That's it! Plain and simple. This is just for fun and you have until April 25th to post your video's here in this thread. If more then 1 member can do it, the accomplishments will be taken to a vote for the most impressive shot! So try and do it with some style etc...

Just 1 jelly bean? what about a pound of them?
And must this be accomplished with a new build (that would be good - to promote building!)
we need more of these "shot contests".

DYI wins.
But, that being said, it might be possible with off-the-shelf stuff. I might try it.
Also I think it goes without saying that high explosives are probably not allowed, even though I would want to see a marshmallow peep-based explosively formed penetrator implemented.

"a" so it's 1 at a time, 1 entry per member, 1 jelly bean per entry. Build a new cannon if you want to or use what you all ready have.jrrdw wrote:the challenge is who can launch a jelly bean through 1/4" of wood

It doesn't matter how you do it as long as you show it in the same video clip, no longer then 45 seconds.jrrdw wrote:You have to film it and show the smashed jelly bean in the same video clip.

frozen plywood? soggy plywood? freshly procured wood?
I hear those New Zealander's have really flimsy wood down there! so a benchmark of wood firmness would be a good thing.

Just curious, why a jelly bean, are they popular during Easter in America? We used to have ads like these run during Easter and they had a competition to upload a video of you eating/destroying the Cadbury creme egg in a creative way.
jelly beans are a popular candy to put in easter eggs.
Also, you stated we had to film the "smashed" jelly bean. Somehow I can't imagine that jelly bean will be smashed so much as atomized...

Perhaps we need a better control?

Still trying to work out if this is a joke about something I've done/shot at/mentioned in the past or if you're just taking a dig at Kiwis for funmobile chernobyl wrote:I hear those New Zealander's have really flimsy wood down there! so a benchmark of wood firmness would be a good thing.

I'm game, though the velocity a jelly bean needs to be travelling at to result in such penetration means it's likely to be crushed in the barrel by the acceleration before even leaving the muzzle.

Thinking outside the box, I think I can do that with nothing more than a slingshot and a room temp jelly bean. I think I have some 1/4 inch balsa wood handy..
As far as crushed jelly beans, I expect them to hold up as well as marshmallows for the center. The coating may crumble, but for most shots, I expect the jelly to remain mostly intact. When I dented a car with a marshmallow, the marshmallow remained intact.
