And to get a license... You need...
Resonable cause, or to register with a shooting club and attend 3 events a year.
A clean record (To an extent. Which, I for one don't have).

Hence this topic... ;)

Port Aurthor was a very un-fortunate event, that could have been prevented if these laws were introduced earlier...

But... in retrospec.... This dude openly tortured, chicken's and kitten's in his front yard as children would walk by...
He also drove a Volvo (there's a hint) and to top it all off he had a permenantly fixed surf board on the roof of it... Yet didn't know how to surf and never used the board...
This guy was seriously disturbed... Do you think he would have paid any attention to these laws? I doubt it.. :(

With saying that... The firearm's act's of Austalia get the big thumbs up from me! :) And your right most people can, just go get a license yet the situation is further complicated, if you actually want to make your own...

yeah when the port author masacue did happen the weapons he had where 2 semi auto rifes and it was proved if he didn't heve semis he woulden't have been able to kill 35 people.

back to the licencing in my opininion if you don't have a clean record i don't think you really deserve to have a licence sure they are strict but it is for the beter the last thing you want isa troubled teenager running around town shooting lead pelets at people.

Well we did have the Aramoana masacre:

Not as bad, but that's not the point, if you have a licence you still can kill a bunch of people. And yes I am aware of the licence, And I quote:

OK gotcha....
So because I made a mistake, when I was 19 and slept in my car when I was drunk.. Means I can't be trusted to use a firearm correctly..? Kinda makes sense, but I am struggling to make to connection...
