Here's a recent project i took on and has great useability with spud guns. Ive personally tested it out and the spark is LARGe enough to work well with combustions and hybrids.
I currently don't have a functional writeup but the video is posted on metacafe. Here's some noteable information:
What you need:
1 Momentary Push Button Switch
1 L.E.D with housing
1 On/Off Toggle Switch
2 Lead Connectors
1 Project Box
1 Disposable Camera (More if you'd like a bigger capacitor charge- i only use one)
Assorted Wires and Tools
Additionally you need a long two stranded wire (speaker wire works well) and single strands of small cut (3- 6 cm) of steel wool. The smaller you can get it the larger the spark!
Here's the link for the video. Good luck in the project and hopefully you can all use it in your spudgunning success.
A side-note =) Yes its remote detonation in a sense so it looks cool lol
Enjoy!
How to build your own ignition box
Here is a tutorial on haw to make your own camera flash circuit:

(this is what i call "make your own...")
It is german but the diagram is very good.
I used this for the remote ignition on my Hybrid launcher. i combined it with a 6v ignition coil and it works very well.

This one does a similar thing with ignition coils.

Using steel wool is good for making sparks, but not many people want to take the time to reset it every time they fire off a shot.
