That is a real good idea... I'm going to have to try it... How short would be too short if you snipped the string.

why put a tail on them at all?
One of my barrels has a few rare earth magnets duct-taped around the it where the proposed shot lays ,to facilitate it staying in place as well as together. We've experimented with all kinds of metallic shot fired as dumps down a barrel... the yellow tape would certainly aid cleanup if you doh'nt (yeah,I said that) have a roller magnet.
