Looking through the different CO2 tire inflators I realised that quite a lot of them could be used as a form of hammer valve.

Image

The CO2 cartridge in this instance screws into the bottom and the valve attaches to the schraeder. Usually you push this down onto the schraeder which pushes the green part back into the silver body of the valve against the spring, and opens the valve releasing the gas.

But what if you fixed the green part to your barrel/breach and gave the silver valve body a good slap? Well you'd get a short burst of gas released, just like a hammer valve.

I can see it working very well with a bolt action, to recock the hammer, all we'd need to do is work out hammer weight and spring rate (could be adjustable?) to release just the amount of full pressure CO2 we need - because NO, this one doesn't have a regulator.

Is that clear, or should I draw a quick picture?

Interesting thought, but with regards to performance I doubt it will be better than any other airgun that uses CO2 carts for power...

True indeed, but it will be a lot cheaper

Well Ok a bit cheaper, I just bought a QB78 for €50 which is very cheap indeed.

Only 50 euros?! Farkin 'ell!

Why not use a cheap AEG as the source for an electric reciprocating mechanism that can be used to cock the bolt (with the trigger sear disengaged, of course) and make a BB hopper for a reasonably powerful auto?

For the QB? You think I'm firing BBs down that nice rifled barrel?

But for this is might work, it'd all depend on the hammer force.

Cos BBs are the testicles of Satan? Or more seriously because deepest darkest France only has steel, and also because I bought 20,000 pellets a couple of weeks ago as the SKAN was using them up quite quickly.

Anyway, getting back on topic a bit, anyone see any problems?
