So I finally got a prototype of the hop-up unit i've been dreaming up in my head. I used it in the makeshift nerf-to-airsoft conversion gun. (nerfsoft?) I used a Nitefinder (hence NF1) as my base gun and did some regular basic mods to it, including an extra spring, increased air seal, and a cpvc coupler barrel mod. Here's some info about the hop-up unit.

What I did was take the barrel from an old broken springer airsoft shotgun and cut a groove in it with a dremel and metal cutting wheel. If you have seen an AEG barrel, you will know what I'm talking about.

This is what it looks like from the side now

After I cut it I slid a hop-up bucking (the rubber part that touches the BB and puts spin on it) over that end of the barrel on the groove. If you don't have any small rubber sleeves like that laying around, just make a smaller groove and use an o-ring. I then wrapped some e-tape around the barrel until it was a snug fit into the 1/2" cpvc to center the airsoft barrel in the bigger cpvc.

The next step is making it adjustable. I found a small unpointed machine screw and drilled and tapped a hole in the cpvc over the hop-up bucking. I then glued in the barrel and put the screw in. It works like this: When you tighten the screw, it goes down, pushing against the rubber, which pushes up against the BB more, thus causing more or less backspin. I did put a small bit of foam between the tip of the screw and the hop-up rubber to keep the screw from tearing up the rubber.

Some pics.

The NF-1 carbine. (still lacking a paintjob atm)

It performs fairly well, shooting well over 100 feet un-angled. It probably reaches about 150 ft. The hop-up is really easy to adjust by hand, no screwdriver required.

I'll take any questions or comments. Thanks for viewing!

Awesome!! But the pictures aren't loading :(, you reckon you can post the pictures on photobucket? Only one of the pictures were loading...

and you should implement a magazine on to that thing hopefully it doesn't reduce the fire power of the gun
It's Nerf or Nothing.

Don't start crying when I play this as my hobby, Paintball, Airsoft and Nerf are equally good hobbies, except you can play Nerf in public. Good day! Hmph!

They load fine, I think it must be something to do with your computer, littlebro05.

Imageshack might not like australian internet. That's a shame, because I thought alot of aussies would like this. Hop-up on their home-made improvised guns. :) Any other opinions?

Edit: Switched over to photobucket, maybe that will end the problem.

THANKS DUDE!!!

Pictures loaded like in an instant. Hmm if i took a stab at making this gun I'd probably try to incorporate a magazine... Working on the same concept but with 2 springs and a plunger type setup. The springs i got are really stiff so it'll offer extreme power XD.

Nice gun btw I wish I could shoot it. How many pieces of papers can it go through?

It can go clean through at least one layer of cardboard. I've seen it do that. It can also shoot a hole through the screen on my screened in back porch (woops, hope my dad doesn't find the hole). The only other gun I have that can do that is my 340 fps JG AK-47 B. Spetsnaz.

I'm still working out the kinks. It's kind of inconsistent in its hop-up, but I've still got some amazing shots out of it. When I get it finished I will put it in the showcase forums.

Hey guys again,

I've been too lazy to buy parts for my Ant's semi gun, and I was thinking... what you can mod the semi-auto nerf gun into a bb gun. It be the most perfect thing for us aussie's to skrimish with, without using any effort to construct something that may be faulty. Though making this might be faulty but if it turns out good... think about it

Image

Take a look at this one, it's another nerf product that's air powered, You could probably turn this into a bb gun but the shortened barrels will decrease the power... But if this one works there's a nother 10shot bbmg without any effort.

Image

Well any thoughts on this. If you pay this out... you probably have airsoft or like paintball better lol <,<

ahh,....... that automatic nerf gun?

that thing is a beast even with nerf darts.....

and the mechanism inside is a *GHASP* RECIPORICATING PISTON

ive taken a few apart before and sadly not been able to modify the piston to anything good.... maximum FPS i was getting was 200.......

As for the NF airsoft gun, i did something like this once too.
works well doesnt it?

Well the post i made above any idea if you can mod any of those into bb guns? i need em for paintball training lol, i'm only going to go paintball twice a year so i use them as my training things.

Btw, don't assume all australians' are airsoft junkies lol, trust me.... i'd say 90% of them are anti-gun activists... because politics poisoned their minds! rawr!! although i'm one of the many australians who want airsoft back into australia :D
