I think online would be the best place, but it really depends on what type of gun you're looking for.

It's hard to soar with eagles when you're working with turkeys.

Very average guns are purchased at Dick's or SA. Pawn shops occasionally have some very nice firearms, not because they were pawned but due to nature of the used gun business. Many gun owners like to "trade" up, pawn/gun shops are a great place for this. Online isn't a bad place to purchase a firearm, just remember you'll be paying an additional handling fee when it gets shipped to your local FFL dealer. Your best bet is your local gun shop. They usually can get anything you see in a magazine. If you keep a good relationship with them they won't mark it up too terribly.

Depends on what you want. If you like old guns (ie: WW2 guns) you might ought to check out getting a C&R license. This way you can buy guns online and have them shipped to you instead of the local shop.
But for everyday sporting firearms go check out the local gun shop. Dick's, Wally World, and Sports Authority. Tend to lean towards everyday gun purchases. Your .22's, .30-06's, and shotguns

umm. if he is asking about a firearm than a local gun store is your best bet(kerley's for me). but this is in the airsoft section of the site! he may want airsoft so, you may have gotten of track. i may be wrong but why else would this be in the airsoft discussion?
