Slowpoke here,
First, to the discussion. I personally like trying to get around design limits without resorting to paying somebody else to machine something for me. You can call it lazy all you want, but the effort and work required actually far surpasses just sending some raw materials off to a shop.
Also, to the photography discussion a little earlier, I believe stroboscopic photography would be the more prudent choice here.

camosoul77,
Every project or cannon (many of which I have yet to post) I have made, I designed entirely in my head and built it with basic and easily to acquire tools. Industrial machinery is nice, but it is not necessary to pull something like this off, it just allows a nicer safer product to be produced.
Give me a welder, dremel, drill press, and a grinder and I can pretty much guarantee that I could make anything you could get made with a lathe or CNC machine. It'll just take me longer. I have the same capabilities as you to build and pull something off like this, but I'm not calling on other people or pulling some "tough love" b*llshit on them because they may not have the capabilities/opputunities or don't wish to try.
I feel like you're trying to encourage the community to try projects like this, which is good. But don't tell us that were lazy or are making up excuses for not trying really advanced or difficult projects. If someone is unsure; does not have the means to do it (especially safely); or does not have the funds to build something that could easily kill them, I don't see them as lazy and I'm pretty sure any other member would not view them as lazy either.
You seem very intelligent and clearly have the capabilities to do cool things, so show and impress us. But knock off the trash talk and tough love, we don't give brownie points for that kind of behavior and it just annoys us.

And yet again this topic got kicked up by a nonsense post.
"Put a scope on it"
WTF is that for BS
For holding this gun in your hand this:
-is not safe
-the gun is too heavy
-is not the purpose of this gun
Also if you did some research, you would know that larda has a machine shop and that he has acces to materials like that.

Keep up the great work.

Also to add to that watch the recoil of the gun. It is impossible to hold that with your hands.psycix wrote:And yet again this topic got kicked up by a nonsense post.

Damn! Looks like someone just got a hard-o. Reallyyyy nice job dude.
Hello everybody, i have been away from the forum for some time now and working on other projects.
But now when the snow is starting to melt away (only 40cm left) its time to continue with this project.
I did some tests last year with the arrows that i haven't posted yet and i also managed to destroy my barrel when the sabot for a carbide projectile broke.
I attached a few images of the busted barrel.

Push to test... Release to detonate.
Wow. Thats too bad, it was such a nice pipe.
I mean, it isnt just a piece of pipe you find in the racks of the hardware store. Its a 200x mix hybrid barrel! And you destroyerized it!
@ Carlman
His sabot broke, so I think his (very hard) projectile just tumbled/jammed in the barrel and destroyed everything because it was pushed through with a lot of force.

Holy crap..... and that is no slouch barrel. At least it failed in a relatively "safe" way. Maybe a harder, even thicker barrel and softer projectile next time.
You may have had a slight oversize issue with your projectile as well.
