btw could i use a compressed gas duster for cleaning keyboards can's or any other suggestions

the reason why i dont want to use an air compressor is because its heavy, and its loud as hell, i dont mind bumping it myself

i was just wondering how long the a pvc tank would last for, i don't care about size, just not ridiculously long, no longer than like 5 feet

if the tank can last for 10 - 20 seconds i wouldn't mind

but i tried installing a schrader valve to a 2L bottle

so basically what i did was cut the schrader valve off of an inner tubing

then i drilled a hole in the cap of the bottle

the schrader valve fits very tightly into the hole

when i squeeze my bottle, air comes out of the schrader valve, not around the valve, but out of the schrader valve itself

is it broken?

Yes. but keep checking because i thought i had that problem and in the end realised that it wasnt the scrader but the epoxy leaking around it.
Also it's very unlikely for a schrader to break because there so simple and sturdy.

Anyway, why don't you strap 2 2l bottles together? It would double the air capacity.

lol maybe you have inserted the shrader the wrong way around??

its doubtfull the shrader is leaking, maybe something is caught in the sealing face( depress the pin and check)

Ive had a 2L up to 200psi and after 10 shots it had very large stretch marks, i only recommend 100psi in these as they become very dangerous although at the factory they are tested until they blow, they should blow at 300psi.

If your using a schrader valve you should never drill into the bottle as this weakens it aswell with the bottle cap. When i made mine i found the inside diameter of the bottle neck is 21mm, so i tapered a piece of 22mm tube, then soldered the schrader to the copper tube, this was tested to 200psi and no problems.

Why does everyone use pvc and other plastics for high pressures - do they want to die or cant they buy metal. Tip - dont use plastic, when you release the pressure fast the chamber thats holding the air cools, plastic becomes brittle and sticks pretty well into flesh.

Perhaps you have more reading to do. While PVC is not intended for use with gas pressure rated PVC is usually very safe for use in this application.

I used PVC parts only on 1 or 2 of my first guns.... when one of them failed I switched to malleable iron

PVC can be dangerous but it's cheap, very light and easy to work with...

weight and price are the biggest issue here and that's why vast majority of large bore guns are PVC guns...

aluminium seems to be a pretty good material as it is light and easily machinable so I suspect that it will become more and more popular

well i actually dont mind how much space it takes up

i actually have an air compressor but its all the way in the basement and my dad yells at me everytime i take it out so yeah

i just want to build something i can use as an alternative instead of that air compressor which is heavy and loud

i will head over to home depot right now and check after i find out if i can get schrader valves and do i have enough money LOL

My dad had an air compressor in our basement ever since i was little so when i stared out building cannons i convinces him to plumb black iron pipe to the garage wall facing the back yard. ever since we have plumbed to multiple locations so when i want to use it i just go in the basement and with the quick connect select where i want the pressure to go to. we have all of the different areas in a line so you just unhook the quick connect and hook it to one of the locations. it is a 50 gallon compressor so it is not really portable. it is also a nice system cause if he wants to use a nail gun in the garage he can pretty easily. plus all of the 1 inch pipe acts as a much larger chamber for the compressor.

I know about the pvc pipe rated for high pressures but its expensive thats why people use regular pvc.
People rather risk their lives rather than buying the expensive materials i know because ive used a 2l as a pressure bottle before, i never got hurt but almost did many of times. Id rather make it from metal and have it non-portable than have it portable and made from plastic.

If i could i would make a hugh hybrid cannon with a 100x mix but i cannot as i live in the uk, i have all of the machines - so instead im making a semi-auto bb shotgun that fires 3bb`s at 700fps or more. Just got to get a belt for my lathe as it snapped again, but its 1/4 done.

anyways about the schrader valve...

when i block the schrader valve hole with my finger and squeeze the 2l bottle, the air does not escape

once i let go of the schrader valve i can feel air shooting out when i squeeze the bottle

i am sure my schrader valve is broken, its bent so yeah ..

but anyways the home depot i go to, there is very few variety of pvcs...

im not sure if it is pressure rated either cause the guy working there said its for drainage so he wouldnt know

how would i identify if the pipe is pressure rated or not

i might just visit another home depot cause there aint 2" caps or 3" anyways

Well i dont know about american markings,but in australia the pipe is about twice the wall thickness compared to dwv drainage pipe, and it has a marking in writing on the pipe of (pn 9) or (pn18)etc, meaning rated to 9bar or 18bar

edit: and if you think your shrader is bent try just replacing the core if uve already mounted it into the bottle,you may need a special tool to undo the core unless you build something to unscrew it.

ie (hacksaw blade and tin snips)or (needle nose pliers)
