Hello all, Ive been lurking looking for an efficient, simple valve system to build a 6mm sniper for airsoft. I havent really decided if I want to go with a semi auto or a bolt action style system, my main concerns are efficiency and consistency.

My question is: How efficient is this design to base off of??? For consistent pressure I could always put an expansion chamber before the input, but as far as the elimination of dead space goes, how well is the quest designed?

also, what makes an efficient system? I saw a post earlier asking about another system, and most of the posters said that it was inefficient... I fail to understand why:

you can use a lot of different valves... and you can either:

buy a ready made valve (ball valve, blowgun, sprinkler valve, QEV, stuff commonly refereed to as '3 or 5 way valves', etc.)

or build your own (piston valve, hammer valve, burst disk etc.)

I'd say that QEVs, which are ready made piston valves, offer good performance and are quite cheap (well at least they are cheap where I live). Most of them can also handle high pressures pretty well (500 psi and more)

the valves you posted are used on paintball guns and they are not very popular here... lol I guess the reason why you've seen them here is because I posted them... and then it was a chain reaction - other people posted a couple of pics and animation as well

I suppose they are not as popular as piston valves or sprinkler valves because they have to be machined (not that you can't build them without machining but that won't be easy and even if you build one it might work worse than more popular designs)
I saw a post earlier asking about another system, and most of the posters said that it was inefficient... I fail to understand why:
IDK really... I PMd the guy who said that but and his answer was
the way i figured it is that the ION/Matrix style paintball markers are all more efficient that the dump valve markers --> don't ask me why, although my theory is that it is easier to control flow

so I guess that was more like 'person X said to person Y that ION markers are more efficient... person Y concluded that valve used on the ION is more efficient'

Lol, thanks for the clarification.

The reason that I have not really been going down the QEV route has been because most of the devices i have seen have seen that have been using them are full auto or tend to use an excessive amount of air. I guess what I'm getting at is just that using a blow gun seems inefficient... correct me if I'm wrong...

there are just a few full auto or semi auto QEV/piston spudguns here

QEVs & piston valves are normally used on single shot guns.

If you want to achieve semi automatic fire with a QEV you need to use a 3 way valve (one that can cut off air supply to the QEV and vent its pilot side of the QEV at the same time).

However, you might also use a blowgun or ball valve, which are 2 way valves, to pilot it but then you lose some air (as air source is not cut off so you vent both the pilot side of the QEV and air flowing from your compressor or anything else that you use to fill the gun)

What is more, you also need to build a laoding mechanism that uhmm loads ammo for you... that can be just a simple T or you can use the same mechanism that I used here and the latest version of it here

I think you should spend some more time browsing the site and learning stuff... no offence intended everyone had to do it... I don't think it is even possible to teach someone all this stuff by answering their questions

It might be a good idea to start with this... but don't think that will be enough.... there is really much more stuff you should read and understand

You can pilot your QEV with a hammer like Brian did, that way you only use as much air per shot as you need. For airsoft though you're better off using a hammer valve directly, here's some ideas.

Yeah, I've read all the stickies and looked at a number of loading/feeding mechanisms and trigger mechanisms... I guess where I got kind of messed up has been trying to combine the loading and the firing mechanisms into one... Its just seemed like a lot of the posts about the small caliber stuff have been for BBMGs and clouds.
