i just saw an episode (prolly a repeat and i don't care) where they made a bottle rocket jet pack (2L pop bottles charged with a pump) they had 15 of them and they strapped them to the dummy.
the intersting thing is 2L POP BOTTLES HAVE A BURSTING PRESSURE OF 150PSI. note how i said bursting pressure and not working pressure, but its pretty cool n e ways, someone could make like a really ghetto cannon with like 15 2L pop bottle into a barrel. This is just a comment i don't actually expect someone to do that but it would be hilarious.

yeah, thats a repeat... i have personally seen it a few times. The fact that 2L pop bottles have a bursting pressure of only 150PSI makes me even less inclined to use it.
I get worried when I am pumping 6" SCH 40 up to higher pressures, because it is rated to only 180 PSI. But this has many safety factors built into it; the actual bursting pressure is easily hundreds of PSI more (400+ at least, I would think...)

yeah but i still think it would be pretty funny to see an uber ghetto cannon with 15 2L pop bottles attached to a barrel with some one huddled behind a barrier. o yeah, mythbuster charged them up multiple times to 95 psi and they were standing like less than 5 feet away just like watching

you have to agree, it would be pretty funny
they had a HUGE amount of thrust, the pop bottle jet pack broke the restraints fliped over and dragged jane (the female version of buster the dummy) into the water.

Sorry to burst your... uhh, bottle... but2L soda bottles burst between 180 and 200 psi. 150 psi is safe for 2L soda bottles.
Now 3L bottles burst at a lower pressure and that must be the confusion here. They burst between 150 and 180.

i'm just going by mythbusters, maybe they bought cheap ones but there 2L bottles bursted at 150 psi and the big water cooler bottles burst at like 90 or 95 (i can't remember but it was less than 100).

well i dunno about that, the 2l bottles are really flexible and the BURSTING pressure of pvc IS REALLY HIGH, as pimpmann has said a million times the pressure they put on the pipe is working pressure and they do that to cover there asses in case of a manufacturing error or something

Mythbusters were using 3L bottles not 2L, thats why it seems to have such a low bursting pressure.
I've seen 3L and 3.5L PET bottles. Cheap soft drinks usually come in these packages.
To my knowledge, all these bottles start out as a tube of PET, about 2'' long. Then it's heated and blown up like a baloon.
That would mean that all bottles have the same ammount of material => smaller bottles have thicker walls => they are stronger
Wouldn't hurt to weigh a bunch of different-sized bottles if any of you have a precise scale.
