So I had an idea which has probably been done before, but nail guns could be used as a bb gun. I saw an animation that had a pneumatic nail gun and it showed something that looked pretty much like a blow forward bolt. So my theory is, take off the area where the nail is shot out of, and put a barrel instead, and rework the nail magazine to hold ammo, and you have a working gun. My question would be, do you think I should spend some money and try it?

It is up to you if you want to spend money on it..
If you have one already I say go for it.

Followwyz's advice on making a bolt and mag setup, hook it up to the nailer and you're sorted.

You can make a gun just as good and better without the nail gun theory I think. I have been using nail guns since I was 16, and when you shoot a nail out of one it doesnt go very far, a typical bb or pellet rifle is just as powerful and alot less money!!

Ah, but if you use the air to push the projectile directly as opposed to driving a piston which strikes it, you have a lot more power potential.mattyzip77 wrote:when you shoot a nail out of one it doesnt go very far, a typical bb or pellet rifle is just as powerful and alot less money!!

Matty, is the piston that fires the nails hollow on the inside to exhaust the air as it flies forward?
Jack, I will try the blow forward bolt when I can get access to a drill press.

A typical nail gun does NOT exhaust air, the air is used to push a large diameter piston that acts like a hammer to push the nails to the wall.
