What to do with a laser...

I would gladly do it. The problem is that the 4 watt diodes I can get for cheap cost 400 -12000 Dollars for other people. My Dad's company makes some mid-power ones but has higher power ones for research.

Well, can't you get a decent cheap diodes to make a simple laser? Or can't you sell them because you get them cheap?
I saw on tv the US military have this flashlight which is a really big green laser. It has so many advantages from using a notmal flashlight, they use it to blind people for short periods of time. Sweet.

If you have a decent knowledge in electronics you could salvage a diode from an old DVD burner and make a diode driver. They are usually in the range of 250mw.
