Oxygen and Hydrogen

I was just thinking, if you were to use electrosis to turn water into oxygen and hydrogen, how well would that work in a combustion cannon? Would there be too much explosive force? Is there such a thing as too much explosive force? I think I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow. I'm tired of having to buy propane bottles. I wanna make my own fuel.

Oh BTW, for those of you that might not know, electrosis occurs when you take 2 pieces of stainless steel, put them in water, and run electricity through them. Oxygen and Hydrogen bubble up and can be collected in a bottle that is held over the water.

Don't try that. The resulting overpressure is too much and the combustion progresion rate is substantially higher then propane.

Sadly, not even I would try Oxygen and Hydrogen combustion (if acetylene isn't enough for you, go for a hybrid).
@Bluetooth: in the lab, you use a U-shaped vessel. I'm sure you can improvise something at home.

Using acetylene is a very bad idea. If you get the pressure too high, or have too much in there it can detonate. That won't won't just launch the projectile, it will also shatter the pipe sending pieces into you.

Also, you can use carbon rods instead of stainless.

I'm all for it. Just make sure of a few things.
#1 Use sch 80 pipe

#2 remote detonation

#3 use carbon rods(or if you're rich, platinum)They don't corrode.

No, carbon rods don't work unless you only plan to collect the hydrogen. On the anode, the oxygen will combine with the carbon and form carbon dioxide which will not only put the gas in as a buffer, but it will also steal oxygen from the mixture and leave almost nothing for the hydrogen to react with.

Collecting that mixture and igniting it will result in a bunch of misfires then a very sad and unimpressive "pveew" noise of a really crappy combustion that probably wont even get a spud out of a barrel.

Use stainless.

Alright I just got back from testing it. I was having too much trouble collecting the oxygen and hydrogen separately so I just collected them in the same container. I used a 10 ml syringe to put it into the chamber, but I don't know how pure it was. I probably got a bunch of normal air in the syringe as well, which would affect the amount of oxygen and hydrogen.

I'm not sure what the volume of my chamber is, because I'm too lazy to figure it out, but its 4 inch diameter, 21 inch long abs. I used an alarm clock with a 1 minute timer to remotely fire it.

It worked alright, but I'm gonna stick with propane from now on. The potato didn't go much farther than with propane, but the screws for the ignitor blew right out of the cannon and left some pretty nasty cracks around the holes. I'll set aside oxygen and hydrogen until I make a steel cannon and I advise everyone to stay away from the stuff as well. It explodes too fast to be safe in a pvc/abs cannon.

Oh btw, sorry about not having pics or a vid. My sister had my camera when I fired it, and there is no way in hell I'm gonna try it again just so I can get a video for you guys.

Ya I'm glad it didn't blow up, but I'm still never using this cannon again. The cracks run all around the chamber. It looks a bit like a spider web. I'll probably just salvage the barrel, ignition coil and propane fittings then throw the rest out.

I mean I set up a nuclear bomb in a suitcase in my backyard and set it off with a 1 minute timer. Left little spider web marks in the dirt. Your story holds about as much water as mine.
