I am going to build a chainfeed remote controlled t shirt cannon for a demo truck we are building for the CES show in Las vegas. My question is what type of air compressor would i need to mount in the truck to get a good rate of fire? I was thinking a shot about every 15 seconds.

Ok what preasure are you gonna run it at? The compressor must either have a pretty big tank or pump a lot of air each cycle of the compress motor.

Problem with this is people normaly dont have the money to do this or dont want to shell out the money to do this.

well this would be cheaper i would think then buying a air compressor that would give him the continous amount of air he would need

you can get a pretty decent co2 tank off ebay... or a brand new 15 lb tank for 77 bux

If I use a bulk tank. will I be able to use the qev from mcmaster? And do I have to do anything special to the gun because i used co2? I have 2 nos bottles already in the shop. Could i use those? Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't use the nos bottles, I think that they are meant to hold lower pressure.
I think that getting a CO2 setup would be the best way to go, and if you just let the CO2 into a holding tank and keep it below 150 ish psi you would still be able to use the QEV. Not sure about the exact pressures they are rated for.

yea if you use co2 just keep it under 150 or so and have it run into a seperate tank before it run to your gun so it dont freeze an burst your gun.. when co2 expands it gets super cold.. but im sure you already knew that maybe

also i wouldnt even go to 150 id just keep it about 110-115

edit: get one of these you can regulate your bulk tank from 200psi (depending on which one you get) down to 0. and it hooks right up to a quick connect male

for a t shirt launcher you wouldn't need alot of pressure maybe 40 psi would work

How bout using 2 compressors connected together. This will give you twice the supply but the maximum pressure will never get higher than the max pressure of one compressor. The only problem is that it could be tricky to power 2 air compressors from a truck.

Does the truck you’re planning on using have air brakes? If so there may be some way of tapping into the compressor to power you cannon. You can get compressors the hook up to the engine on the truck, similar to the kind that runs hydraulics. You’ve got the big engine already; use it to power a compressor. If nothing else get a BIG inverter and a BIG air compressor…

Thanks for the advice. I think i am going to go with the bulk co2 and a holding tank. I did not know about using a holding tank to solve the freezing problem so that problem is out of the way. Now i just have to build the gun. Will post pics when gun is finished

I have been pondering this question as well. I searched for portable small gas air compressors, but they would still be a pain and very expensive. in the process i found a very large air compressor that was rated at like 4700psi or something. it said it was for scuba tanks and other stuff. I wish i would have kept the link and looked it over more. does anyone know what pressure they normally charge scuba tanks to? they are smallish, portable and if they hold alot of psi, once you only take like 100-125psi per shot out of it to fill your chamber, you'd have alot of shots left.
also is there any conversion chart type thing that says how many times you can fill volume 1 to 100psi from volume 2 at said psi before they are equal?

Scuba tanks hold between 2200 to 4500psi depending on size and tank construction . The compressors used to charge them are very expensive. Even a small portable scuba compressor will cost $1500 used. The one that I use to run my paintball field costs $3000 new and this is a small compressor.
