coke bottles are definately safe for combustions, make sure your ammo isnt terribly tight though, even if it is, the cap would blow off first I think. I have a coke bottle combustion mortar. it is cheaper and you can get one (almost) anywhere. I can walk a matter of 100 feet to the gas station and get one, it also conviniently comes with a yummy drink

Careful with combustions, as the plastic can melt.
For smaller bottles (16, 20oz) the pressure rating is fairly high, enough for a decent pneumatic.

I wouldnt try to take it above 80, maybe if you have a long hose for your compressor and a pressure gauge that will hold the pressure reading after the pressure is gone, you could start filling a bottle, hide behind something big, wait for it to go boom, then find your gauge and see the pressure, stay around 20 psi below that, I wouldnt recommend doing this, but an Idea

I've put one up to 12 bar when I was a kid. No problem
I notice that this question gets asked every once in a while, but I ask everytime, why in the hell would you want a pop bottle in any way associated with your cannon besides ammo? Every cannon Ive seen with pop bottles look like white trash, like it belongs in a trailer park. To me its like a mexican buying Wal-Mart Plastic spinner rims then painting them gold. Go out and spend some more money and make a nice cannon. (just in the case of the mexican, go buy some real rims, not a hub cap)
If you make such a cannon incorperating pop bottles, do me a favor and name it one of the following:
White Trash
Trailer Park Launcher
Coke Gun
Boom Stick
Although, spudding is kinda a redneck/ white trash hobby in the first place. I have two black freinds that I built potato guns for, but when was the last time you meet someone besides white on the forums? Just to some up the post, dont use pop bottles for your chamber.

in school we tested a 1 liter coke bottle to 100psi in class (for water rocket launch testing) and held tight. in my rocket a 2 liter bottle filled with half water i chanced 110psi harder than hell to pull the fireing pin but that is as high as i would go
