hi there, im looking to make a CHEAP motorized scooter. I was thinking of a chainsaw or weedeater motor mounted on the body, with a chain drive to the back wheel. Any ideas? Ive google searched, and can't really find anything of great help. Any input appreciated, thanks.

*EDIT*

I have located a Briggs & Stratton 2hp motor to power it, and have changed the plans around a bit. Read on a bit before posting 8)

Chainsaw motors make great scooters. They allready have the centrifugal clutch you need.

The chainsaw idea sounds cool, but i don't know what the sproket looks like and also you probably wouldn't get much power from it. The weedeater also probably won't have enough power to pull a person unless you get a beast of a weedeater. Do you already have the frame you want to put everything on? Why don't you make a minibike instead of a scooter because you can fit a bigger engine on it.

Are you making the frame of metal? I would think the clutch would go for a little but wouldnt last very long.

yup, metal frame. i priced a "nifty 50" scooter motor, and the dealership wants $250 for it! i might have to start looking in the secondhand pages for an old scooter to hack......at least the motor would work.

Depending on the chainsaw, it will provide adequate power for your wishes.
