Mitcho's BB Rifle idea

i did chrony the most powerfull shot. with a friend's chorny he uses to set up the gas airsoft rifle he has to keep straight on the rules of the field. we did two shots before the pump hose broke up, one displayed 398 m/s, the onther one (we changed display options to fps mesurments) 1191 fps. The huge difference is due to the irregularity of the 0.12 grams BB's.

No offence but a one-off shot is hardly scientific data, what model was the chrony? And how close was the chrony to the end of the muzzle?

Damn thats really quick... It is only one shot but thats a much better guide then the results that ggdt displayed.

Guys I'm really confused about the "breakline" people are saying they are using. I live in Australia so I wouldn't have a clue if its called the same thing here or even if its avalible here. Does anyone have an idea on where I can get this stuff from and the exact name of it? I feel like such a noob but it's doing my head in trying to find something decent and never having any luck...

First of all, it's "brakeline" - because that's exactly what it's supposed to be used for, as hydraulic line for brake systems. I don't know about Oz but in Europe you can buy it coiled from engineering suppliers and car spares suppliers - I use copper brakeline for my 0.177 BB designs, granted you have to straighten it out but you can get a reasonably straight barrel with some patience and the fact that the diameter is so close to the BBs (outer diameter 6.35mm, inner diameter 4.5mm) that measure 4.5mm for lead and 4.4mm for steel.

I didn't have the pretention to say i was providing scientific data...But two shots pretty close in velocity are a pretty good example.
I don't know the actual model of chrony, i was black and green, and i shot at it at about 2 feet.

What I meant to say was that chronos are particular instruments, and to have satisfactory readings to base further research and development on it's best to be sure of the authenticity of your data, and even with a properly calibrated instrument you need a significant string of shots from which to draw an average.

well, i was satisfied with two shots...and even with erroers in the reading, the velocity was considerably high. The sound of the shot was self explanatory.

I'm in Aus as well, you can buy them from good motor places like Auto One. Or if you know anyone who is into archery or you want to buy an arrow shaft you can use them, the arrow shafts are 6mm, but some are 7mm, just depends. They are dead straight and made of aluminum.
The only hard part is finding 6mm ball bearings lol.

6mm ball bearings are a breeze to find.

bmx crank bearings (cheap shitty bearings) are mostly 6mm.

if not ebay 4TW you can but 250 for like $20 inc postage

my arrow shafts for my compuond are thicker like 9.5mm o-d and 8.5mm i-t at a guess.

sound is no indicator of velocity, first of all unless you measured it with a decibel meter it's completely subjective, and secondly, you can have a subsonic shot that makes a supersonic crack due to the expanding gasses breaking the sound barrier. Until I see at least a 5 shot string on a proper chrono complete with video, your truly remains skeptical

I've finally started building the damn thing. I got my barrel today from a hobby shop (thanks Rna) but silly me had a brain meltdown. I was thinking of 6mm ID as I was looking for pipe and so I said to the bloke at the counter "I'm looking for some 6mm pipe"...Silly me....only has an ID of like....4.5mm so I'm gonna swap it over tomorrow for some 8mm or whatever has a better ID, as I pick up the rest of my parts. Best thing is, I found I have a stack of old fishing sinkers I never used because they were too small..........They are 6mm

An 0.22 airgun pellet tapped lightly with a hammer will flatten out to 6mm diameter and makes great penetrating ammo for 6mm barrels

Yeah I was thinking of getting some air rifle pellets. They have a diameter of 5.6mm so lighly tapping them with a hammer to flair em out a bit is a great idea. I only have a 160psi pump at the moment. I won't get much real performance out of the bb gun untill I get a shock pump but the pump I do have is def. good enough for a bit of fun.
