Alternative Ignition
Yeah, but they are dangerous to mess with. Just get a long lighter and remove the piezo ignitor, or get a lantern ignitor. If you can though, order a stun gun. If you are patient, maybe you could find a grill someone is throwing out and swipe the ignitor off that.
There are definitely ways around it. Maybe even pistol primers, set off with a mousetrap, would work?

I'm weird, I know it, you don't need to tell me.

Hey has anyone ever thaught of using a bullet casing without the bullet i.e. .22 rifle with the bullet removed to fire a cumbustion or hybrid. This would require a metal housing for the casing but I think would allow a larger ignition to occur.
If this is aganst forum rules than I apologise, just say it and I will remove this post.

Removing bullets from live ammo is dangerous. It can be done, but it is a bit of work and can deform the casing. Also, you can buy a big pack of primers pretty cheap. You could either make a steel plate to hold the primer itself, and add a little hole or something to be able to stick a nail or something in to pick it out. Or, spent brass is pretty cheap and you could knock out the spent primers with a nail on top a piece of wood. Seating primers should really be done in a press though, for safety reasons.
A shotgun hull would actually work very well, I think. There are types of shells that aren't usually reloaded, so you could get them for free. And the plastic or paper hulls could be cut off really easy with a utility knife. The primers are large and easy to handle, and would shoot out a huge flame when struck. The primers cost about $4 or $5 for 100, if memory serves me right. Although, I haven't had to buy any primers yet. My dad had a big 1000 pack that I've been using for reloading. And I got my hulls, powder and shot free also since he was going to throw them out. My reloads are so cheap, yet perfectly loaded that it isn't even funny.

So this idea is possible?
I have never built a combustion, however guys that have are always trying to find better ways to make larger sparks. I have removed bullets from 22 casings and hit them with hammers and they make a considerable sound.

Maybe use an ignition coil driver, they can give about 2 inch sparks and cost aboot 20quid.
It's all a bunch of tree huggin' hippie crap!

On sgorts store he has just the stungun circuit which is perfectly legal to own.

An extremely simple ignition device:
Materials
2 screws
Combustion Chamber
9 volt battery
2 wires
Steel wool
Put the screws into the chamber and leave them about 1/2" apart at the tips.
Connect the wires to the battery.
Connect one wire to one of the screws from the outside of the chamber.
To fire, put a small piece of steel wool between the screws so it connects them.
Spray in fuel, screw the back on, and connect the loose wire to the other screw.

I've got a flyback circuit question:
I just yanked a flyback from an old tv. I've located the correct coil leads on the bottom, but I can't find the right transistor I need to drive the circuit.
I've heard of a couple transistor types that work well (KSE13009 and NTE284)but I can't get them in stores around here.
So, to the question: Does anyone know of an appliance or other electrical apparatus I can find some heavy duty transistors in?
I've got a few PSUs with some nice looking heat-sinked ones in them, but I don't want to fry/ruin something before I ask.

Your best bet for the appropriate transistor is the TV you got the flyback out of. There should be one or two power transistors mounted on heat sinks somewhere near the flyback._Fnord wrote:I've got a flyback circuit question:

Your next best bet would be to read http://www.hills2.u-net.com/electron/ignit.htm (scroll down to the "Suitable Switching Transistors" section), then order the closest thing you can find from Digikey or Mouser.

For flamerz14;
* A flyback ignition system is a pretty complicated thing to get to work. Keep hunting for Piezo BBQ ignitors (nobody in your country BBQ's?)
* There are a lot of places online where you can get'm.
* Using the firing cap from a bullet is a stupid idea.
* The next easiest would be to order the guts of stungun.
* The next easiest would be a photoflash board from a disposable camera + an automotive igntion coil.
