i need a good backstop

Hey all, well i need a good idea for a good backstop. Anything I've used sort of stops the bb's, but they still bounce around a ton, all around my garage and shop.

Anyone have any ideas?

Depends on how fast the BBs are going.

If they are traveling at normal air rifle speeds, a layer of thin wood followed by several spaced apart layers of cardboard should catch them all. It would obviously require some experimentation to see how thick the wood needs to be, and how many layers of cardboard you need to catch them all.

If they are traveling at significantly below air rifle speeds, you will likely only need the cardboard sheets.

If they are traveling close to, or over, Mach 1, then you will need to get creative - maybe a large block of very thick gelatin. You can bet that catching them won't be easy at those speeds no matter how you do it.

I use a cardboard box filled with towels, rags, bits of styrafoam, etc... to shoot BBs, pellets, and airsoft at. Works great.

yeah, towels and rags are a good choice if you have a bunch lying around like I do... just pack a bunch of em in a cardboard box and it should stop just about anything you shoot at it (within reason). And if you're just shooting bb's then it should work fine... provided the bb's pierce the cardboard box (which shouldn't be a problem). Then, when and if you wanna reuse your bb's they'll all be lodged nicely within the mass of towels.

For my strafers, I use a storage tub (the ones with the rope handles) filled with carpet, which you can probably get really cheap or free from a local carpet seller, just ask for old large carpet samples.

Oh, you will also need to put a piece of cardboard over the top of the tub so that the bb's stay inside it.

use ballistics gel its just gelatain and cinamon oil and when u want the bbs just melt the gel.

You could use ballistics gel, but that can be a pain to make. You could also use a cardboard box with sand in it. The best way to do that is to put a heavy plastic bag in the box and then pour the sand in, the bag helps keep the sand from coming out. The carpet idea would work well too, but with the sand all youd have to do to get your rounds back is run it through a strainer.

for my bb backstop, i use a pile of sand. but since a pile of sand is hard to come by.............

try filling a bucket with dirt and then shooting at the opening in the top. should work fine..............

I use a carboard box with some old shirt LOOSELY packed in there. It's only like 4 inches thick, but even with BBs fired from my 750fps airgun, it stops them all. To get them back, just pull the shirts/cloth out and catch the BBs in a bucket or something.

Don't bother with paper products or styrofoam. I tried that and it takes a lot of it, and it makes a big mess.

I have an idea! How about using a high-voltage electromagnet in a box? Just shoot steel BB's.
