Ah, yes it does, but when you have backspin, it is fighting gravity, and they two sort of cancel each-other out temporarily. So, the end result is that it goes basically level, and it goes straight because it isn't spinning sideways.

True, but odds are you won't have an acurate and ajustable hop-up, and you wont be able to negate the effects of gravity, you'll over shoot it in one direction or the other.

I guess I'll find that out tomorrow when i try Clide's idea. I think I will be able to adjust the amount of backspin easily just by cutting off or using different thincknesses of rubber

Yes, exactly. It isn't impossible to get a nice hopup.

At six o'clock on the muzzle you can see the small piece of rubber that I glued into a notch I made in the pvc. In the picture, it's actually keeping the ball from rolling smoothly down the barrel. I protrudes 2 millimeters from the inside diameter. This small piece of rubber is the hop up that creates a backspin on the ball when fired; considering you screw the barrel on correctly with the rubber at 12 o'clock .

It's never failed me, and the golf balls shoot straight and true. They may waiver a bit in the air, but I think it's due to sheer velocity and wind speed. I can hit the green from 300 yards...everytime! (well almost)

Edit: I used JBWeld to secure it. Also, here are a few more pics. The hop up can be seen at 2 o'clock in the first picture. Note the pic of the breech. I used pieces of pvc from the sleaving process for a ball stop, and I had just enough of a gap at that end to shove in another piece of rubber to hold the golf ball in place once loaded. It works well. The burn marks are from a combustion with the same barrel set-up.

Thanks man, my barrel is thin walled pipe so I'll have to put a coupling on the end and notch it. Also today I tried Clide's idea and the golfball went perfectly straight but it took the rubber with it.

Whoops, maybe your rubber is thicker than mine or something. What kind of glue did you use?

I'll try to get a pic of mine this weekend to make sure we are talking about the same setup.

I used this epoxy called Epoxy Plus Five and just glued the rubber to a coupling. The rubber was as thin as SDR21 1.5" pipe. Maybe the epoxy was faulty considering I bought it in the Philippines (You can get 400psi gauges there for $3 ) and they import too much chinese products.
