Am I the only one that can see that theres not much point in having a magazine if its only going to be single shot?
Edit: Oh i see, its a vortex, got ya'

To get this to work, you will obviously need some sort of way of feeding the rounds into the launcher. It seems to me that (it being designed after a vortex) that gravity feeding will not suffice.
The pneumatically operated magazine may work, but it would have to be sealed good, which would bring in a problem of reloading. The rounds would also have to fit well, so that the air will not go around it and defeat its purpose. Maybe you could go with interchangeable magazines that are spring fed, like the Deus Ex Machina.
Now, this brings up another interesting question; How many shots do you want to shoot before reloading. It being designed after a vortex, you probably want a bunch of shots. Go for it, these darts aren't that big.
The other problem would be it jamming (the darts actually poking the pipe). Someone expressed thought in a sabot, which is a very good idea, but will be very time consuming for a lot of rounds. If built, you could angle the magazine catch so that the darts will feed better and even line the angle with some sort of metal.
Anyway, that's my thoughts. Good luck.

You must have missed my post hubb. Here I'll post a picture for you guys.
I posted having the small, thick darts in mind. I would assume that, in actuality, the ling, thin ones would be out of the question.
I apologize if that was misunderstood.

Ah I see. Well I'm not sure how those would poke the side of the barrel, as long as you checked them to make sure that the nail was straight. Unless of course it's me doing the misunderstanding. By the way, you could do a gravity feed, then put the darts in a sort of shotgun shell style thing. Although you would have to find a way to eject the shell.
I drew a quick diagram to better explain how they may catch.
Also, the ROF from a vortex or strafer may be higher than the feeding obtained by gravity. It would work with a single shot or shotgun effect, but it would lead to misfires in the full auto version.

Ah I see what you're talking about, that would cause problems.
These ones that blackosprey posted would work if you modded the flairing on the @ss end of it. pnuematically feeding the breech is ineffective. you would have to make a relativley low pressure piston valve say like 40 psi something that could recharge very quickly, and then spring feed the ammo from a custom made banana clip. I think that would be the best way to go about it.
DONT TAZE ME BRO.. DONT TAZE ME... AHHHHYea, that's definitely going to get you at least a tazer.

Why would the flares have to be modified? These ones that blackosprey posted would work if you modded the flairing on the @ss end of it
If he is making a vortex type launcher, why would he need the piston?you would have to make a relativley low pressure piston valve

You could make it shotgun shell style. Have each dart inside a casing, with something like kleenex or a similar material over the front of each case. That would allow you to use a spring loaded clip, or maybe gravity fed.

Barrel ====== -----____ Spring steel strip bent to keep the tip from digging into the barrel. The spring could be pushed down by the tail as the dart gets pushed down the barrel, mount it rite below the magizine. Thoughts? Debugs??? Shoot it down in flames???

why not make a whole magazine of barrel peices that have darts in them, and to fire, open up a continuous stream and drop the tubes through......... might even make a good semi-auto. if i ever make a shell-fed gun, its shooting darts.........
1. to make them uniform so they slide easier along the barrel instead of having just one little piece in contact with the barrel youhave most of the shaft.hubb017 wrote:Why would the flares have to be modified? These ones that blackosprey posted would work if you modded the flairing on the @ss end of it

2. to seperate each shot so the ammo has time to properly seat in the barrel so you dont jam up so the thing will work
how bout that

You could just make it like a gatling gun, and have one shot per barrel.
