This should be a nail strafer. It fires a nails without their heds.It is portable, with rapid fire, probobly reliable, you can shoot many nails with one battery, but the muzzle velocity won't be more then 50m/s or 150fps and very un acurate.

This system has been used on a larger scale to shoot planks, so it should work just fine. Only problem is the projectile will only be as fast as the wheels.
Reminds me of another rotating system that overcomes that limit: The P.E.S.T.
That one works with BBs but could be adapted for nails.

i think you should rather make that pnumatic ,it will be much better.

you saw on mythbusters the rig with spinning wheels that shot cards , now i thought that you get a wireless angle grinder and modify it so that it spins 2 disks and then fide out some way to feed the cards in , i guess that could make a fully auto card gun easy but wireless angle grinders dont come cheep 8)

I had some card throwers. They realy suck.Very noisy unaccurate and can't do any sugnificant damage. You can't launch a nail with a pneumatic unless you have a rifeld barrel.

how about launching shuricans (ninja stars) instead of cards or nails , how far can you throw a card ? i throw them about 40 meters

This won't come cheap. And it is more fun to fire 10 nails for second then one star for the same time.

yes but if you have the tools to make the gun you can make the ammo and shuricans can be made very very simply, but i do see what you mean

I think the usage of two spinning wheels to propel a projectile is better suited for heavy projectiles. Such as baseballs. Make a upscaled version to shoot rebar or something. I absoultely love the ideas of the wheels going at different vectors which you stated will rotate the projectile. Wonder if you could leave the gun fixed some how and move the wheels to the right or left slightly and if it would "hook" the projectile.

My biggest promlem is that the gun is small=>the wheels are small=>the projectile won't have speed more then 50m/s.Other problem-if the wheels are from metal there won't be enough drag between them and the metal nail.If i made them covered with rubber, it will fly around from the centrofugal forses. The bigger the wheels are=>more speed for the projectile.Looks like the idea is most sutable for big scales.

you have to know what you are doing , i saw someone make it using a car motor ,car wheels.... other car parts ,they expected it to shoot bowling balls but they rushed it and it really sucked

Yes, car engines and wheels have been used and nothing flew around "from the centrofugal forses". For nails as long as 20cm, rubber wheels as small as 10cm in diameter could be used with a fast electric motor for a powerful, yet portable launcher. I still think you'd be better off adapting the P.E.S.T. It would be half the size and up to twice as powerful.

P.E.S.T? What is that ,and where do i find it?

**edit**
i just had an idea, say you had a crossbow but instead the bow in the front (sorry i cannot remember the correct terminology ,it is very late and i am tired) you had 2 disks to launch the bolts that could be like the nailgun only better.

The only draw back about useing wheels that i can see is if they are at different angles, they can't touch each other or one will slow the other down, because of the meshing.

)DEMON( : I gave the link to the PEST in my 1st post: http://www.geocities.com.nyud.net:8090/pest3125/
The thing about the crossbow is exactly the same thing as this topic's subject. It makes no difference if the wheels are vertical or horizontal.

jrrdw : both wheels should be powered and spinning at the same speed. They don't have tobe in contact with eachother, only with the projectile.
