you sorta have to unfocus your eyes so you get two images, then the special image looks like one with a 3d something in it. its hard to explain.

Magic Eye images may be easier to see if viewed on paper rather than a computer screen. If possible, print the image you want to see and follow the instructions below. (You don't need to print in color.)
It helps if you use the ones with squares in them to start off, like he one below, which help you get the feel for it.

Hold the center of the printed image right up to your nose. It should be blurry. Focus as though you are looking through the image into the distance. Very slowly move the image away from your face until the two squares above the image turn into three squares. If you see four squares, move the image farther away from your face until you see three squares. If you see one or two squares, start over!
When you clearly see three squares, hold the page still, and the hidden image will magically appear. Once you perceive the hidden image and depth, you can look around the entire 3D image. The longer you look, the clearer the illusion becomes. The farther away you hold the page, the deeper it becomes. Good Luck!

oh my gosh, i went and made my own and still cant figure out how to read it....

They do take some practise. I couldn't do it for years, but now I'm very fast to see them, at distances, angled, twisted slightly, computer or paper... it's just experience, a lot of people can never "see" them, but once you do it the first time, it just gets easier.

What you need to do is focus "past" the image. (Also very good for freaking people out. Focus a few feet past their shoulder when talking to them). One way to learn is if you focus on something about 2 or 3 feet away, and keeping your eyes at that focus, move the image into your view, then move it back and forwards until you find the right point.

Now, I was considering getting a set of cards like these:

They're cards with Magic Eye patterns on the back that tell you what the card is - but they're done so cleverly, most people will never know. You do have to be proficient with seeing the patterns though, because if you're the type that has to move them backwards and forwards in front of your face, it will give it away.
One guy I know had a set and didn't even realise their secret. Which was great fun - completely messing up people's minds by correctly "guessing" the card each time.
I did eventually tell them how it was done*, and I've been considering getting a set since. I think it's probably worth it, but I would prefer to find a UK dealer.

*Perhaps I shouldn't have told them and had a few quid off them in a game of Blackjack or Poker instead...

I found that if you look at a very symmetrical thing like certain keyboards you can get a more 3d ish zoomed view, but the letters keep switching.
this was the one I looked at.

I remember magic eyes. Back in the third grade, that's all we'd look at in the library.

It took a little frustration and experimentation, but I finally read ragnarok's image.
