That is actually a very good idea and would increase opening time quite a bit if you pull hard.
ill have to try that, simple but effective
That's what I did with my old steam guns to open the ball valve. Opening times weren't exactly blindingly fast, but they were less than 50 ms according to my camera. Better than usual, but a piston valve it ain't.

Speaking of steam guns, I may finally be getting around to making the big one that I promised you all about half a year ago :roll:

Well 50ms is double the speed the average ball valve can open without the string so it should help quite a bit. As you said a piston valve or sprinkler will open faster and get much higher performance but if you have an old ball valve gun(like my second gun, I am not going to post it is too horribley made)that isnt worth adding a faster valve to it could give it a boost it velocity.
