Hot Glue Piston
Ok, Im ready to make my first piston cannon, and the piston will be made from HOT GLUE!!
Anyways, in most pistons there is a screw going through the middle of the whole thing to secure the piston inside. But lots of people have said that pistons move back really fast, and i think that the the screw will slowly wear away the hot glue. Will it really happen? Or am i been to cautious.

The bolt going through the middle is usally to hold the sealing face on, and/or to secure a bunch of washers and other bits and bobs.
Yes pistons move back, really fast. You need a bumper remember. The bolt, not screw, will be fine as long as you have a decent bumper.
Hot glue is a common material for pistons, just look at other peoples hot glue pistons for reference.
God, it seems like you need less and less knowledge to build pistons these days...

That screw is usually there to secure the rubber sealing face to the piston.Hydra wrote:Anyways, in most pistons there is a screw going through the middle of the whole thing to secure the piston inside.

your barrel should come into your tee about halfway and your piston should ride in a sleeve. also the dimensions of your piston matter, your piston should be longer than the diameter is wide. you definitely need to do some more research on barrel sealing pistons after that question.Hydra wrote:lol ok
TY for the help
EDIT: W8...But how does the piston stay secured inside? I mean if your piston housing is inside a Tee, what stops it from falling inside the 90Degree bit.
I don't want to spoil the fun, but I have seen hot glue projectiles shatter into pieces. The pieces are not sharp or anything, but hot glue in its cold state is not unbreakable. It could break when used as a piston.
Still, I think projectiles have to cope with more kinetic energy than a piston. A piston only has to move a little bit and then it will be stopped. Most pistons have bumpers to reduce the shock anyway....

Somehow the humour of this signature is beyond me. T-Rex's are extinct so not endangered by definition. I also wonder why it have to be the Chinese, are you implying they are the main cause of the world's "overpopulation"(a controversial topic on its own)?Help Bring Back Endangered Species and Control World Population - Feed a billion Chinese to your very own T-Rex

One piece of advice on hot glue pistons:
never leave them out in the heat, I left a 1.25in, .75in porting, piston valve in the barn and it got hot enough to melt the glue enough to make the already snug piston seize up, in the open position no less, and it wouldn’t budge even at 110psi.
On the other hand it effectively sealed off the end of the pipe…

First, you pretend to speak for everyone. I don't think that you can speak for everyone here.watto wrote:lolol dude we get it, your chinese, or your not chinese and you think acting politically correct makes you appear smart, whichever it is just take a joke everyone knows there are way too many chinese thats why theyre only allowed one kid, signatures dont have to make sence as long as they make ppl laugh , so dont pick his apart
Second, it is you're not your. (I am actually pointing this out to someone who is a native English speaker... )
Third, what would you say if my opinion was that there are too much Australians or Americans on this world?
I am not Chinese at all. I am just concerned with the arrogance of certain people on this world. Pointing fingers all the time.
Ever bothered to look into demographics? In more wealthy countries, birth figures are down. That means, if more countries get up to the standard of western countries people will get better education, better and more humane birth control (access to contraception methods).
Yeah, I know this is all very off topic, but I cannot just watch people make unsubstantiated remarks and blaming certain people in general for overpopulation.
