After having conquered a combustion gun and piston valve, I decided to make a hybrid both for the power and cool factor.

Without further ado, here it is...

Specs

Chamber 8"x1.5" galvanized pipe
Barrel 1/2"x36"
Ignition 330v Camera Flash dumped through Ignition Coil
Fuel Propane
Mixes Tested up to 4.5x, but I will go to 6x in the future

Please no comments about the barrel being to short, as this is all I have at the current time.

Although hybrids often seem intimidating, they really aren't that difficult to build. The only problems I had were making a spark plug, and getting my union to seal.

More information is with the pictures, and feel free to ask questions.

Looks pretty good. I keep thinking about building one. How far was that shot taken from? I know hybrids are loud but how loud are they really?

Nice job on the spark plug there. I might be a little concerned about arcing through the wire insulation and into the little barb. Most typical insulation is good up to 600-1000v and good luck after that. If your spark gap in small enough the current will prefer that and you shouldn't have insulation arcing. Just be careful not to let the gap get too large. You could replace that wire with real spark plug and not have to worry about the insulation issue.

What are you using for burst disks?

edit: Sorry this is so off topic, but I deeply feel that this rant is necessary.

OMFG!!!! None of you have seen Firefly?

GO WATCH FIREFLY!

its only the best Sci-Fi tv show ever, and though it was canceled due to Fox's stupidness, the fans managed to get rights to the season that aired, so there is a DVD set of it, and they managed to get a major motion picture mad of it: Serenity.

Go watch all of the show, it is the best thing you will ever do with your time. I could post some of the episodes if you dont mind downloading 4gigs of data across the net, but i would suggest Net Flix

Anyway....

Nice hybrid, seems like Hybrids are the new Piston valves :P

Edit: elitensiper, I deleted your post because mine pretty much summed up what it said. And it wasn't really adding much to the topic, i'm sure you'll understand :)

thank you for that on topic post Lentamentalisk(sarcasm)

And nice hybrid

your 1/2in barrel is constricting flow like nuts, Im guessing you have a 1in union. Go but a 10ft long 1in barrel on it, that will double the energy in the projectile

We never left it. Frocksie doesn't seem to be answering questions at the moment...it's OK to get a little small talk out of the way...isn't it Crowley???...
