I read some where that a 300000v stungun ignites just as well as a 65000v one. I dont think this is correct. If you have a 60KV sorce makinga 10mm gap and a 300KV one making a 10mm gap the spark in the Higher Voltage one would produce fatter, hotter, and more reliable sparks. Right?

no, a 300kv one would be hotter, but not by a big enough difference to notice. you could use a 700kv stunbaton, but the higher the voltage the faster it uses up batteries, and with not much difference in spark, i dont think its worth it.Benny wrote:65 kv would make a slightly bigger, hotter spark but not by much.

Higher voltage doesn't mean anything. It's all about the current you are getting. A better current is a better spark. There's kinda a happy medium though.

I agree with sgort87, you have to get the eletric to the points of spark. Shorter wires, same gauge of wire, the normal do's and dont's.
QUESTIONS: If you wire double the batteries in series, will the curuit hold up to the extra power?
Double the strenth?
Twice the battery life?
My inquiring mind wants to know, but don't have the means to find out???

If you wire two batteries in series, you get twice the voltage. I don't think the transistor in the stun gun can take it, though. It would mean twice the spark lenght.
If you wire them in parallel, you get twice the current (or half the current draw). It means they will last twice as long. I see no reason for this, since it's the same thing as just using one battery after the other has drained.

Hold up guys, before you fork up your stun guns and need to buy more. Stun guns made for 9 volt batteries do not like running on 18 volts. It makes them quite weak. Running at 12 volts is fine though. Just be sure to not overload it by sparking too long.
The good part about running on 12v is that you can also power your fan with that better than with 9v.

the high the voltage, the lower the amperage, which is why a spark from a lash camera is bigger then the one from a stun gun. also, when stun guns are advertised as 300,000v, that is exgerated. in reality is is proabbly closer to 100,000v or less. it would be almost impossible to fit something that could produce 300,000volts in something the size of a stun gun. the performance increase with using a higher voltage advertised stun gun would be barely noticable.

the point is that because the flash is lower voltage, the amperage is higher, and it is not always bits of metal, it can also be gases (simple description) the gap just has to be extremly small because th voltage is low. the only real way to get a noticiable increase in performance is usually through the number of spark gaps and there placment.
the hotter the spark is the faster it wil ignite the propane (in a timeframe of milliseconds) but it will not effect the speed at which the rest of the propane burns.

actually the more spark gaps will make a larger difference in the speed that propane burns because you are igniting the propane in at more points. its likie lighting a fuse at sveral points instead of just letting it burn from one end. also putting the spark gap in the center of the combustion chamber will have the greatest performance boost because its like burning a fuse at both ends (not the greatest comparison), but yeah the spark gap towards the end usually works well.
