Well yeah, but 230A is nothing. In the capacitor bank I'm building, each individual cap. has a rated output of 2KA. Perhaps he needed an SCR that could take useful amperages.
I'll reserve judgement on this EM-CC until I see it. And how do you define a small tree? Because I'd say 8" or so diameter, and it takes a decent amount of energy to shoot through that, much less knock it down.

Are you sure thats 230A continues, not surge? mines considrably larger then the one in the pic.
Im going to use the SCR in a coilgun, for high energies, im doing a railgun, so my switch is the projectile.

One one hand, that IS true.
You will need a ridiculously powerful magnetic field to act out force on a potato.

nowadays, hardley anyone shoots potatoes, so in that case, most of the guns on this site arn't "spudguns". The hobby has evoved alot from that.
If you insist on shooting a potato, look at 4hv.org. One person made a induction launcher shoot a golfball, as they are more aerodynamic. just plop a piece of potato infront of the aluminum/steel, and there.

ya i saw that, bolt is a bit bigger on mine, and the actuall SCR part is longer, the bolt is shorter too.

So, A Electromagnetic spudgun's real name would be a railgun or a coilgun. You don't call a railgun an electromagnetic spud gun just for the he11 of it.
Unless... wait, maybe you could launch cooked potatoes out of a railgun, as potatoes have a bit of water in them... ? I wonder if Lorentz's laws apply to a potato better test that out.
[EDIT]Cleaning rails from burnt potato residue. bad . At least it was only 2 rails hooked up to a power supply.

Lowe's sucks. They didn't carry a schrader valve, so I went to target to get a entire tire tube. $3.15.
Also, documented is that I had to saw the facking gun in half after I set it down the wrong way and the schrader valve goes into the chamber. I wonder, If I cement it together, it'll be ok...

Oh come on, I forgot I can't make reloads. I had them made by a friend who pressurized the things for me. They had tiny holes in the bottom which he stuck a pin through, and got the pin wet in rubber cement, and he'd pressurize the round and then pull out the pin, holding the rubber cement with his finger quickly while we waited a little more for the rubber to dry...
OH COME ON. THE BLOODY COPPER GOT DEFORMED.

There aren't electromagnetic spud guns, but I think he meant to include electrothermal guns in that category as well. Larda's ETG is a shining example of that category's available power, but I can't imagine any vegetable matter surviving in the barrel of that thing, with ~10000psi and a few tens of thousands of degrees Kelvin behind it.
Spudfiles' resident expert on all things that sail through the air at improbable speeds, trailing an incandescent wake of ionized air, dissociated polymers and metal oxides.

10000PSI? On sam barros (powerlabs) website, it says plasma railgun armetures can reach 50k PSI, and that also uses lorentz force O.o. Imagine the power of that =)
