Ok. So, I've been hearing a bunch of talk (okay, well writing and reading) about summer projects. This thread is to display some of the things your working on this summer. Please include as much info regarding your project as possible. It would also be good if when you do finish your project to post it here, or at least put a link in there.

I'll start out-
Sawn-off shotgun style
First copper cannon
specs- currently unknown

Most of my summer projects can't be discussed here, but here are the ones that can:

What I'm working on right now is a very small ETG, only 500J or so. The big capacitor (3kv, 1.4kA) should arrive in mid-July, if all goes according to plan. Right now, I'm using 60 disposable camera caps I got for free in some preliminary testing.

There's a big water main and sewer upgrade going on around here, and I'm going to try and snag some leftover 10" pipe to make a basketball cannon.

I'm building a proper oxy/propane hybrid at the start of the summer, likely 2" bore and 60x.

I'm going to use the aforementioned hybrid to test oxy/fuel vs. air/fuel hybrid mixes with the chrony I'm getting.

There's a slight possibility that I might build a 4" bore 20x oxy/fuel hybrid. Don't count on this one though, it's horribly impractical, even for me.

In the everlasting pursuit of a big boom, we're going to fill a 1m diameter weather balloon with stoichiometric oxy/hydrogen mix, and set it off on the August long weekend.

And of course, the DYI-KART.

I'll select the "Hybrid" option, because that's what I'll be doing the most work on (60x, testing, balloon, etc...)

DYI- Sounds absolutly awsome! Be damn dure to bring a video camera when the weather baloon goes, boom.
And a 60x Hybrid? goodness... what are you using as a chamber? titanium?

Maxus- sounds fun :)

i bet 100% of the people here knows that i am working on a hybrid.

other than than i have plans to make a completely homemade oxy/propane cutting torch.

(and maybe some mini pneumatics/hybrids etc)

I had to pick other, because my summer projects (as far as this hobby) include all of the above.

I need to finish my BBMG, upgrade my hybrid, finish my new combustion barrels, and, for the heck of it, build me some paintball launchers (for my paintball field :D ).

Ill stick to pneumatics this summer. Once I get a fridge compressor up and running, Ill finally be able to use my QEV gun, wich I will post then.
Till the day I'm dieing, I'll keep them spuddies flying, 'cause I can!

Well Im going to be getting a chrony soon so I can start a quest to get to mach 2, yes mach 2 and have a comfirmation video.
So I guess that is what I will be working on this summer, building ridiculously overkill 15x hybrids that fire airsoft bbs at hopefully mach 2.
Should be fun, though childs play compared to DYI's nutty adventures.

Well right now im constructing a 400 psi copper marble cannon with a bolt action breech named HEAL jr(got permission from rag) but right now ill put that aside for the summer, Ive already constructed the whole body, just needs a piston and a 1/2 piston valve exhaust and a bolt action breech. But for now im making a small .177 cal stick gun, its about the size of your hand operating at 400psi, with a 1/2 sch 80 pvc chamber coaxial style.

why not use 1/2 inch copper like my stick gun?

just a thought..... 400 PSI and plastic just scares me.

not to mention the ID is far more uniform.......

Yikes won't they melt at mach 2? Besides mach 2 airsoft =Ouch! :D

Back On topic, I've got some 1" sprinkler valves but I'm not crazy about pvc, Maybe they'll be used for exhaust for pistons. Or testing something.

I would like to build a metal cloud using copper for the body, and Husky sandblaster for nozzle. (Not sure if copper can handle the banging bb's?)

Sabot designs, (may or may not post) ,for launching arrows accurately and design for multiple at a time.(Hunting type stuff)

Still just basic pneumatic designs, 8)

That makes me wonder what kind of velocity I'll be able to achieve in the summer. The current design for the 60x oxy/propane hybrid could allow it to reach about 700m/s with a golfball, with a 6' long barrel.

However, high velocity impacts can yield some very impressive results. The goal for one of the projects I can't discuss here is 2km/s muzzle velocity. That would be fairly small projectiles though. It would be interesting to see if I could get a hybrid with a very high chamber temperature and pressure to hit 1km/s with something the size of a golfball. The only product of oxy/hydrogen combustion is H2O, which should increase the SOS in the post-combustion gases. One of my friends will be making decent volumes of hydrogen in the summer, and if we could find a way to compress it safely...

Are you at all worried about ddt in the 60x oxy/propane hybrid. In my opinion it would be almost impossible to avoid because of the mix and fact that you are using oxy instead of air. But for all I know the chamber is designed to take DDT's regularaly.

And im guessing the things you cant discuss here are some of those [awsome dust] powered cannons.

Well, vh man, plastic and this sort of pressure isn't to bad, jsr uses 300+ on 3/4 pvc with his projects, the id of the copper and sch 80 1/2 are almost the same, plus i have loads of 1/2 sch 80 pvc, and I like the dark grayish color more it blends in more if i bring it somewhere.
