making fuels out of our crops such as corn could effect the price of food however so does the price of petroleum gas because of packaging and shipping not to mention the gas used by the vehicles on farms.

But this is then a real dilemma. To produce electricity, fuels such as fossil fuels or natural gas need to be burnt in order to produce the electricity in the first place.Gippeto wrote:I believe that the direction to head in is straight electric.
Maybe if everyone were to have their own 'charging station' in their own home. They just cycle for a few hours as exercise, this charges the batteries on the car. Kills two problems with one stone, obesity and the cost of fuel.

Not entirely. Power plants are more efficent than your average petrol engine by some considerable amount, so it is a better option.MaxuS the 2nd wrote:But this is then a real dilemma. And of course, electrickery can be generated by wave, wind or solar power, all of which are completely sustainable, ooh, until the sun blows up.
I say we go with using the power given to us by the very large fusion reactor known as the sun.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

We should force everyone to watch fight club!Gippeto wrote:We already have the technology to produce an electric automobile which would satisfy the NEEDS of the majority of the planets population.
TD: Do you know what a duvet is?
N: Comfort.
TD: It’s a blanket. Just a blanket. Why do guy’s like you and I want duvets? Is this essential to our survival in the hunting and gathering sense of the word? No. What are we?
N: Consumers?
TD: Right, we’re consumers. We are by-products of the life-style obsession. Murder, crime, poverty. These things don’t concern me. What concerns me is celebrity magazine, television, 500 channels, some guy’s name on my underwear, rogaine, viagra, olestra.
N: Martha Stewart.
TD: Fuck Martha Stewart. Martha’s polishing brass on the Titanic. It’s all going down, man, so fuck off with your sofa and string green stripe pattern. I say never be complete. I say stop being perfect. I say, the chips fall where they may. [Pause] That’s me and I could be wrong. Maybe it’s a terrible tragedy.
N: Its just stuff.
TD: You just lost a lot of versatile solutions for modern life.
N: My insurance is probably going to cover it.
TD: Things you own end up owning you. Do what you like.

Any chance you saw Fight Club on Film4 the other night.
Still, a vehicle that runs on a renewable, sustainable and powerful source of energy is needed. I think that the spudding community should tackle the problem, we're all a fitting bunch of people.

That would be nice, having a English-speaking TV channel! It's all effing Spanish hereMaxuS the 2nd wrote:Any chance you saw Fight Club on Film4 the other night.
Thank heavens for PCs, Ripped DVD collections and youtube's playlist facility

yes it does, but normal cars are hybrids already. i think around 8x. so i think turbo's bump that to around 10x, depending on the rpm's and turbo. but that is more fuel, too, so it is not without cost.jook13 wrote:indeed, but doesnt a turbo or supercharger do that? I am not sure, I am not a mechanicYeah but it would be way cooler if the hybrid cars actually worked like a conventional spudding hybrid.

I was thinking if an engine is run on compressed (whatever),MrCrowley wrote:Compressed air. You can fill your car up at home for $2 worth of electricity.MaxuS the 2nd wrote:So what would be the best alternative fuel?
Natural Gas?
Ethanol?
Vegetable Oils?
Hydrogen?
Let's hear your ideas people.
The exhaust gas could also be used to turn a turbine generating electricity.
Sort of a hybrid compressed air maybe.
I was following the process where a particle accelerator shoots at a hydrogen atom and converts it to helium by knocking an electron off.
And giving off heat hotter than the sun to be used in electric generation.
The electricity generated could be piped into a circuit shaped like a grid with spikes pointing in a way that when the current passing through it creates enough stray ions moving the same direction to produce lift (thrust from the air ion movement).(Like a magic carpet!!!).
Some air-filters work that way. Been a while since I've studied it.
But the concept was invented by a Russian- American citizen who was a pilot in WW1. And published on the cover (as flying saucer designs) of (forgot and can't find it) 1962 or '64 popular science Or popular mechanics magazine.
BTW, I suspect it's used to power submarines secretly and that's why more people don't know of it.
The power to lift ratio seemed impossible until I saw the particle accelerator fusion(?) generator (thought of combining two together)
Now there is renewed talk of missions to the moon because an element "Helium 3" is found there and it can be used (to line the walls ?)of The small donut shaped generators
About the size of a truck, use microwaves usually to shoot the particle incredible speeds round and round inside. I heard somewhere.
It's said if gold or platinum bars were stacked on the moon it would cost too much to retrieve them.
But apparently this stuff valuable enough for talks of new missions there!
So forget cars I hope to see magic carpet or jetson's type stuff. 8)
EDIT: I also find it very interesting that many UFO reports involve tales of lights or rainbows of color. When light itself is a form of electro-magnetic radiation. Stray exhaust maybe???

87 octane is 4.05/gallon one place.Little further it's $4.20/Gallon
Diesel is almost $5.
Here's a link I've had in favorites a while that I heard of on "Truckin'" show: http://www.freedomfuelamerica.com/ Loo ... maybe???

turbochargers work by using the gas flow to turn a turbine which pulls air and compressers it some what (4-12psi) and 'injects' it into the air intake.THUNDERLORD wrote: I was thinking if an engine is run on compressed (whatever),

if you wanted to make electricity you would be better off just adding another alternator that runs on the belts of the engine.

Clone a giant bird and fly around on it's back!!
I was thinking just a pigeon would be suitable.Or perhaps a white dove.
They're so peaceful and just sit around. I was daydreaming of flying over the cops while throwing beer bottles and the bird could poop on them!
The G forces wouldn't be too bad. IDK what kind of G forces a more sporty bird would encounter though.
BTW I was also thinking a giant parrot would be cool, I'd teach him to yell "Get the eff outta the way" or on landing " We're here bia..es!!!" 8)
