A cardboard shell might not survive in the barrel, and copper really isn't that risky. I've tested it several times before with flash powder. It exhibits less of a shrapnel effect than a "banana peel" effect.

My fireworks are well on their way, but the copper launch tube is being replaced with a larger bore steel tube. I'll be setting off about 20 store-bought fireworks, as well as a small "sparkler b0mb", my air-burst flashbang shell, and the prerequisite oxy/fuel balloon. I know the sparkler device is going to be pathetic and kewl, but I have loads of them lying around, and there's no way in hell that I'm going to use them as they were intended.

I just realized that the 4th was coming up and realized I didn't really anything cool to do. I think I'm just going to end up building a simple noisemaker consisting of some 2" pipe and a 2" burst disk.

Anyone know how loud one of these would be, or is there any way to get it to be louder? I was planning on having no barrel, because that seems to be louder.

Oh yeah and I'll probably shoot some spuds :D

Is it similar in concept to my fire extinguisher tank filled with 1kg of "magic silver dust" placed in an old computer tower?
Similar, yes. That's all I'll post on the internet about it.

Also, I've finished my significantly smaller fireworks for tomorrow. I'll post pictures, and possibly videos of the results of that on Wednesday.

Just got back from doing the fireworks. Unfortunately, there won't be any videos of them. The liquid-fuel fireball failed, predictably. The sparkler flare worked flawlessly, cutting the bottles open and producing two fireballs. The balloon was a (very) resounding success. The guy I was talking to on a cellphone 10km away said it sounded like the roll of distant thunder, which is all good in my books - it means that people far away won't be calling the cops about bombs, only wondering when the storm's coming in.

Don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm perfectly happy with eating grilled meat, firing spuds, and playing with homemade fireworks.

Happy 4th, y'all!

Happy Independence Day to all the Americans here.

Here's a short video clip of the balloon explosion. You can't see anything, but if you turn up the volume on your speaker, you can tell how loud it is.

Here is my 4th of July toy loaded up with 40 Excalibur shells and some smaller stuff. This and other strings of fireworks were setup and fired with my 12 channel wireless controller. A quick way to burn up money, but it sure is cool.
